Messages badge on iPad just broken

I just wanted to post that this is happening, it has happened to people for years and there are quite a few proposed solutions, most of which I have tried. There seems to be no solution that works for many. For awhile I had no badge for iMessages on my iPad, no matter how many texts arrived. Then for awhile, it always showed the number 2. For a day or so, it worked. Now, it's back to not showing any badge, ever. This is so messed up Apple, please fix this.

For me the badge sometimes doesn't clear, even though I've read the messages on the phone. A reboot clears it.

Reboots don't help in my case, it seems to help some not others. Do you have iCloud Messages turned on? I do.

Yes, my problem started with 12.2 though. Before that it worked fine.
