Hey all, I'm astonished by the battery life on my base M1 Air — except for one intermittent problem I've been experiencing. I've noticed rapid battery drain sometimes, along with the computer becoming hot. This morning, it dropped 20% in a little over an hour, which is definitely not normal.

Each time this happens, I've checked what apps are using significant energy, and the Messages app is the culprit each time (plus Safari, which I'm usually on for work). Force-quitting Messages and waiting a while to reopen it makes the problem go away.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? TY in advance!

I have had an issue with this as well. Checking activity monitor I find that imagent is running amok. I force quit just that process and am still able to use Messages fine until the next time Messages closes completely and I relaunch. I can't say for sure what that process does as when I searched I saw answers ranging from it having to do with Messages in the Cloud syncing to listening for FaceTime calls. All I know is that when I force quit imagent, my fans stop spinning, the battery stops draining, and Messages continues to work perfectly.

I'm having the same issue.
Laptop gets hot, fans fired up.
Force quitting "imagent" process resolves the issue temporarily.

No issue here on my M1 MBA, I’ve been on Monterey public beta since July.
What OS are you guys running?

I've got a Macbook pro 2019
Did a recent format and reinstall
Started getting issues with the latest MacOs Montery 12.0.1

I have the same issue, it usually happens if I click the (i) button on the top right of the chat and leave it like that while using another app.
