just proves imessage isn’t end to end encrypted if it requires apple servers

maybe i’m just confused about the text needing to pass through a dedicated server before getting to the end user...

So, if by your own admission you don't really understand something, don't go making definitive statements about it!

Not how that works from a technical side. You can have something be end-to-end encrypted and still require a server in the middle. That's how the vast majority of services work, aside from P2P and a couple others.

Well, it's true that iMessage is not end-to-end encrypted if either side has iCloud backups enabled, but that's not because it relays through Apple's servers.

The iMessage and FaceTime services available across Apple's platforms appear to be experiencing problems at the current time, with some users unable to send messages and make FaceTime calls.

There are a number of tweets about the issue on Twitter, and Apple's System Status page is listing an ongoing outage. The feature is not down for all users as of now, but Apple says that the service is unavailable for some and has been down since 11:48 a.m. Eastern Time.

We'll update this article when the iMessage issue is resolved.

I don't know which is worse. That you actually believe this or that others also do. But don't worry. iOS 17 will allow you to send messages directly from iPhone to iPhone without encryption. Every device will have their own static IP. Just wait for it.

Ah, I was fighting with this earlier today. I did a restart on my newly Ventura updated Mac and it started sending Messages again. That being said, I'm trying to share a Note and that isn't working. Also seeing my Notes are syncing between Mac and iPad, so perhaps more than Messages effected.
