Messages Have Phone Numbers, Not Contact Names

On my AW3 in Messages only the telephone numbers show up and not the actual contact names. Is this a bug or something in settings?

it happens to me when i restart my watch

Even resetting the sync data doesn’t do the trick for me - all my contacts are shown on my Mac and my iPhone X (nevermind the way the contacts look on iCloud.com - they are a mess for whatever reason). But on my watch there is just a randomly picked bunch of contacts showing... very strange.
