I'm looking for some help to fix an issue that recently started with my messages. To be sure, my messages show up on all my machines - my iPhone 17, my iPad Pro M5 and my iMac M1. All are up to date with the latest software updates. The problem is that the indicator of whether the message has been read (typically a dot next to the message) does not sync between the machines. Therefore, If I get a message and read it on my phone, it will still show up as unread on my other two machines. It didn't used to be this way. It used to be that once I read a message on any of my machines, the indicator would go away - i.e., the message would show as read on all machines once read on any machine. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix to get it back to working the way it used to, which is the way I'd expect it to work? Thank you.

Just be thankful all your messages show up on all your machines. Despite all of the workarounds that doesn't seem to happen to us all. I also get the unsynced notifications. Its a crapshoot at this time, and I'm sure the best engineers are not jockeying to fix this maintenance issue.

I've been having similar, but not identical, issues with Messages between my iStuff. I'm hoping Apple does another "Full" update with minimal new features, but maximal clean-up of existing irritations (they've done it before).

This has always been a problem for me also. I'm reasonably certain I pulled all the switches and checked all the boxes on these devices and still messages may, or may not, show up on my macbook pro. Frustrating!

Actually, all my messages show up, but their status is the problem. I’ll read a text on my iPhone and it will still show unread on my iPad. The frustrating thing for me is that it wasn’t happening a few months ago. Not sure which update caused the issue, but I’m quite certain that I did not personally go in and change any of my settings.

I was at the Apple Store and showed them the issue and they couldn’t explain it. All they could offer was to reload all of my products (iPhone, iPad, iMac and Apple Watch). I asked what that meant and they explained that I should back up my products and then wipe them clean as you would do if you were getting rid of your device and set it back to the initial factory condition. Then, restore the device from a back up. Well, that seems like something that is way more risky than something I want to do. And, I fail to see how that would actually accomplish anything.

That seems ridiculous, I'm sure they don't know what else to tell you. The next question would be, 'how long would that last before I need to do it again?'.
