Messages not responding

Hey guys. Hope everyone is doing well.

My problem is with the messages application in Mountain Lion. It would be a great product if it every worked for me. The application is constantly "not responding" to the point that it is making my machine drag. It's at the point where I constantly have the Activity Monitor open to force quit the program. Anyone have an suggestions?

Messages App on 10.8.2 also Not Responding.

I have had the same problem lately, in fact, the application almost never leaves the spinning pinwheel. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did anyone find a solution to this? I have the same plus similar issues on a brand new 1-day old Mac Mini.

When logged in to the local account, everything works, but when logged in as a network user, Messages, Contacts and Calendars, and print & scan don't seem to work. When I try to open any of these, the beachball spins and I have to force quit from the activity monitor.
