On my watch I get notifications for SMS but can only view and dismiss, I cannot reply and they are not saved in the message app.

If I get an iMessage then I get the option to reply and also the message is saved in the message app.

Having spoken to Apple apparently this is 'expected behaviour'. If that's the case then the watch is going back as I don't see the point in not being able to reply to all messages?!

Is anyone else able to respond to SMS messages on their watch or is the info I've had from support correct?

I use iMessage but on occasion will receive SMS messages. Wondering if this is true and if so wow that's not good.

messages

I can reply on all messages. I'm given a choice of pre-suggested responses (Yes, No, Can I call you later, absolutely, etc) or even context related responses if a question / choice was presented (ie "would you like sushi or pizza tonight?" will give me sushi and pizza as choices). Furthermore, you can also respond with emoticons or dictate a message via siri.

Look under the "messages" app settings on your iPhone Watch app. See if something looks off.

I've been on the messages app on the iPhone and there isn't much I can fiddle with on that. It's set to 'Mirror my iPhone'.

I know this may sound like a silly suggestion, but you did scroll all the way to the bottom to look for the reply button, right?

Yep, have done all the silly/obvious things to no avail. Have got a senior Apple specialist contacting me later on tonight but so far no joy.

similar

I am having similar. Cannot get imessages to come through and notify on the watch, and everytime I try and send an imessage to GF, it tries to go out as an SMS but fails. Notifications are not coming in to the watch either, or at least not predicatably.

any thoughts?

I've responded to both with no issues. The only thing I noticed is that when I dictate a response to SMS, it just sends it when it's done rather than with iMessage I get the option to send as audio or send as text (which makes sense).

Sign in and out on iMessage. See if that sorts it out.

that pretty much did it, although I did do some other things.

Having iMessage RE-ACTIVATE on the iphone took nearly 10 minutes though, so SOMETHING is going on as well

WHAT THE HELL !
I cannot reply to any normal messages what soever !
Only imessages i can reply to.
Also my whatsapp notifications do come in but there is no option to reply anywhere ! This sort of defeats the purpouse as i will still need to pull out my phone to actually reply to someone

Way to go apple ! U nipped this one in the butt again

In regards to SMS messages, there's something wrong there as me, and others can do it. Maybe try resetting the watch and phone.

Whatsapp is NOTHING to do with Apple! It's up to the Whatsapp devs to sort that out!

Also, it's bud, not butt.

Not to mention a complete failure to use that idiom in a correct context. :)

Are we actually helping one another or giving grammer classes
My native language is dutch so yeah, sorry my english is not up to par with urs .

I was under the impression this forum was about beeing informative towards one another instead of coming here and looking for gramatical mistakes.

I'll keep that in mind the next time though
Tnx for the heads up

I was being informative by letting you know that your issue with whatsapp is down to the developer, not Apple.

Have you fed back to whatsapp about your complaint with them not supporting the watch?

Also, did resetting both device sort the SMS issue out?

Also, wasn't correcting grammar, was just letting you know the right word for the phrase you used, being helpful. . You didn't need to get offended by it.

fixed!!

I had the same problem where I did not have the reply button for SMS text messages. Switching off and on the iMessage on the iPhone resolved the issue for me. I can now reply to both SMS text messages as well as iMessages.

I would assume that it's because it uses continuity, like on iPads and Macs. There was always a weird thing like that when enabling those the first time.
