messages search not working since iphone upgrade

Since upgrading my iphone last week and restoring backup from the cloud, I have been unable to search my messages within the messages app (some search results do show but the vast majority don't show up). Any fix for this?

I'm shocked you had this working at all. I've never been able to get it to work properly. Doesn't matter what iOS version or what device.

There is a thread on apple discussion forums that claims that resetting all settings solves the issue.
