Is the messenger sync via iCloud work on iMessages and sms in iOS 11?

I use backuptrans to always backup all of my iPhone messages. Do a clean install and only put back the backed up messages. Works really well and i've been able to retain my entire message history during all phone upgrades and software re installs, etc..
Been doing that for a few years now since iPhone 4s i think.

I personally hope the iCloud messenger feature can backup all txt.

It is working for me and some others. Takes some patience to get it to sync first time though.

its working for me on ipad and iphone, took a bit of time before it started working.
havent tried on my imac yet tho

Yes, it works for text messages too. I did a test for someone in this forum. I deleted a regular sms from my iPhone and saw it disappear on iPad a couple of seconds later

Cool. So in theory if I got a new phone and logged into iCloud all txt messages and iMessages would get populated back. If that's the case that's awesome!

I can confirm this (at least sorta) works, I set up my iPad as new on iOS 11 after first upgrading and doing iMessage in iCloud sync and once I started a conversation with a contact it pulled the message history from iCloud :)

I still don't get it... Whats new to this? When I got iMessages, it shows up on imac, macbook, iphone#1, iphone#2, ipad, apple watch. When I read it, it got marked as read on all devices and doesn't show up as new anymore. If one device has been turned of, it got the whole messages, when it got turned on again.

With iCloud sync, if you delete the message on one device, it gets deleted on all other as well.
Plus this way, you always have a backup on iCloud just in case something happens to one of your devices!

Might leave that on then for more real time sync, while the iCloud Messages is more of a "one truth" and backup of all messages :)

I think that’s how it’s meant to work. Things might change later in the betas I guess.

my icloud sync for imessage option is disable today. Think Apple disable it to prevent people keep trying to activate it.
