Good afternoon.

I have not downloaded beta 1 yet as have no developer account & will wait for PB. From posts & screenshots I’ve seen , it doesn’t appear that Messages currently has a home screen widget. Now over the betas features will be added , taken away &
Tweaked. Does anyone else think messages will be added ? You could have it set to the larger size & when a message comes through the persons face (if in contacts) appears with the number count or similar. I’m sure it would be implemented better than that but you get my gist.

Thanks

That would be a shame as it could be good. Time will tell I guess. One thing for sure , the overall widgets implementation etc will be tweaked more over the coming weeks/months.

you would think they would add that but cause not, I knew it wouldn't, its a bit of a gimmick the whole widget thing, it would of make sense to have messages etc things people could actually use

No messages widget. 🤦‍♂️ Would be the most popular widget by a long shot.

Is there a phone app widget? would like to add my favourites as a widget.

Cant believe there is no safari widget either. 🤦‍♂️

What would the widget accomplish? A persons face is just a notification, it doesn’t give me information at hand. What if I have 10 new messages, how will they all fit?

Looking at the design guide by Apple, it states they the widget isn’t interactive, so you can’t swipe through messages, etc.

What would be the purpose of a message widget?

For me, simply a list of the last messages

I’ve been trying to think what I’d want, again though, the widget can’t be interacted with so you can’t scroll inside to see multiple messages.

Also there’s S, M and L widgets. I think it’ll only work with L where you can see name and few words from the message. I don’t know how you’d design a S widget for messsges.

But I’m no designer! Let’s see what Apple comes up with!

You’re right about the size. It will certainly have to be a full-size one. And preferably scrollable, but I wouldn’t expect anything more from that. It would just be good to be able to see the latest unread message without actually having to go into the app itself. First world problems

probably privacy concerns. There is a difference between opening the messages app to peek into your messages and to see them right from the home screen

The phone would have to be unlocked to show the widgets therefore privacy should have nothing to do with it in my opinion.

What’s the point of widgets if we can’t interact with them. Absolute stupidity by apple. 🤦‍♂️
