Messenger badge not working since iOS15

Messenger's badge doesn't work since iOS15, I get lock screen notifications of a new message, but no badge when I see messenger.

Then when I go into messenger, it's very laggy at updating the new message. as in up to a minute.

All the other badges appear to work fine, it's an iPhone XR, so not that old.

Annoying as I mainly use messenger to talk to family.
Is there a known fix for this?
 
Have you tried deleting and reinstall the app? If. It I would try that first. I did see some other post about people have problem with messenger as well

. side note could be a sign to move on from facebook apps. Lol
 
I have exactly the same problem on more devices, but a friend of mine does not. I'm using iPhone SE (2020) and 12 Mini, both are suffering from this issue. My friend has an XS Max, which is working properly, but he also has an iPhone 8 which behaves the same. Delete/reinstall does not help at all, and all other application badges are working fine.

Same issue here, I get notifications but not badges. On iPhone 12. If I open the app, the messages come through and if I then exit without reading them, I DO get the notification badge after that. So maybe the issue is something to do with the way the app is refreshing in the background

Yeah, you described it perfectly well, same experience here. Notifications are being pushed to the device, they are appearing in notification center, phone dings, but no badge. When I open the app then go back to main screen, badge circle appears. Interesting that only Messenger is behaving like this, all other applications (email app, bank clients, food ordering, etc) are working just fine. And also interesting that some of my friends' device don't have any issue with Messenger on iOS 15.

also have issue on iPad and iPhone
 
Tried re-installing, no good.

I get the same behavious as above, and was playing around a bit more on it. It is as is the app is not running at all when not in use. The person sending says the message has not been delivered until the moment you open the app, but not read the message.

Even when you go in, you need to wait for the message to update/download, in the past it was always just there immediately.

The badge works for new messages if you just been in the app and come out to the home screen. It's as if the background refresh isn't working to kick the app when there's a notification, tried turning background refresh off and on and nothing changed. If you were cynical, you'd think apple had crippled messenger since the app hasn't changed.

Is the badge an ios function or a app function? I had always assumed it was an ios function since the notifications can come without the app running, and badge would update even if the app was not used.

I'd happily ditch it, but my friends and extended family all use it, so kind of stuck with it.
 
Same problem here for me, happened when I installed iOS 15 to my 12 Pro, and is happening on the 13 Pro I had a few days ago. Quite frustrating.

Good to hear I'm not the only one with this issue, a lot of people from my office updated to iOS 15 and none of them experience this. In addition to that, the video attachments started to chop up and repeat frames..perfect transition to the new iOS for messenger :D

Seems to work on my iPhone SE (2020). I did however a clean install om mine, if that matters (not sure).
 
I have the same issue on a fresh installed iPhone 13 pro and iPad 12.9 pro,

I always perform fresh installs on new IOS's and this is the first real issue ive had (so far!) must be a bug and FB will no doubt eventually fix it .. I have a friend who has this this issue with ios14 FB messenger too, so im assuming it was introduced with a previous app update..

Exactly same problem here with the badge as well as videos.
Just installed todays update, DID NOT WORK.

Hi Guys. I just figured out its because i had background app refresh disabled in settings->General->Background App Refresh

I had this disabled before IOS 15, so its must be because they are handling this stuff differently in IOS15.

works here now, with background app refresh disabled for messenger
 
Anyone found a solution for the previews? They do not show up on my Ipad, Iphones and my watch.
 
Messenger was working fine when I was on iOS 14.8 yesterday. But after downloading 15.0.1 I have the same issue as the above. Badge notifications non existent, missed notifications on Lock Screen. Basically it’s a disaster. I use messenger as my primary chat app, so kinda wish I hadn’t upgraded now.
 
Hi funky. Sadly that does not fix it for me or many others. We have tried everything suggested. Will wait for Facebook to update app.
 
Nope! Facebook must be aware of the issue, as there are lots of comments in the UK and US app stores about this issue!! Sadly, Facebook seem to have other more pressing issues to deal with rn :)
 
Hmmm is some way for fix Messenger badges in iOS 15.0.1 ?
I have iPhone 13 Pro and not working... :(
Try some ways and nothing.
