messenger crashed cant shut down

my messenger has crashed it will not shut down and it will not let me shut down my macbook pro 😕 what can i do new to this only got my macbook pro last Friday its my first mac.

Keep you finger pushed down on the power button until it turns off. (5 to 10 seconds) It will be fine.
