I am wondering what the value proposition is here? Is it that Meta is offering something for free that's not quite as good as a $20 per month ChatGPT or Anthropic subscription and they steal your data but it's free? Is that the deal here?

At least Meta has been contributing to open source AI.

Don’t forget that they did this one important thing. The whole llama cpp based infrastructure we see worldwide was kicked off by the llama models and now supports every architecture.

Whether the AI runs local or in the cloud demand privacy. This is what you should focus on. Rejecting it outright is silly. You do not have a terabye of RAM on your laptop so if you want to run the top AI models for any purpose it has to be in the cloud. Demand privacy. Simple.

Encryption in transport, encryption at rest, and user decided to purge their data with no company retention.

You are not the center of the world. You will be gone within a few years. I will be gone some years after that. AI in all its forms will continue to exist long after you and I are gone and everyone on the planet will be using it in some form or another.

It's the way I myself feel about AI not a tech position and yes this Mac probably does have AI somewhere on it.

I've been Meta free for almost a year and had no idea they discontinued messenger... if I was still using their products that would have really ticked me off.
