Meta today announced that it is adding several new web features to the Threads social network, as well as officially relocating the website to a new domain. Threads is migrating from Threads.net to Threads.com, and Threads.com will be the new default domain name.

When Threads launched in 2023, Meta did not own Threads.com, so it was located at Threads.net. Meta acquired Threads.com in September 2024, and since then, the Threads.com domain forwarded to Threads.net. Going forward, users who type Threads.net into a browser window will be forwarded to Threads.com.

To accompany the name change, Threads on the web is getting several interface updates to make browsing through posts on the social network easier.
  • When using a single column view, custom feeds will be shown on the top of the web page in the same order they appear in mobile.
  • Liked and saved posts can be accessed through the main menu icon.
  • A column can be added by clicking on the column icon on the right-hand side of the screen.
  • A Threads post can be copied as an image instead of being captured in a screenshot, which allows posts to be shared on Instagram and other social networks.
  • Clicking the "+" button at the bottom of the screen shows a pop up composer that follows your cursor as you scroll through feeds.
Meta is also testing a feature that allows users to upload the list of people they follow on other apps to Threads, starting with X.

Meta says that it plans to continue to provide updates to the Threads web experience, with more web updates coming in the near future.

Some tailor shop somewhere hit a massive payday...
More than likely GoDaddy just sat on it parked. I swear they’re a cartel. I have a fairly unusual last name and their quote for me to register the .com was $35,000. Mind you the .org and .net I have are like $20 a year.

Then their “broker” said “we can come down to $28,000 but that’s our final offer.”

🙄 They’re worse than Pawn Stars.

This is why I never test out the "see if your domain is available" option on a registrar's site. Essentially you're just telling them what domain they should snatch up to sell at an inflated price.

While I don’t particularly like GoDaddy, they’re just acting as the middle man. You’re almost certainly dealing with a private seller.

Another option is to do a Whois search and try and negotiate with the seller directly (assuming they don’t have privacy protection on).

I’ve never seen that behaviour by a mainstream registrar. I’m not saying there aren’t dodgy operators out there, but I suspect you’re being a bit paranoid here.

It took them 6 months to change the domain name? And that’s still twice as fast as Twitter …

I suppose some people use threads. It’ll die eventually so I see no reason to be sucked in to a Zuckerberg data mining algorithm. Hard pass.
That sounds like a generalization. "Some" people are definitely "many" if you open it and see the activity. IG really integrates the content from one platform directly into your feed, constantly humming about this thread or that thread. Gen Y & Z is definitely using IG and Threads combined. A simple stats search highlights the largest group on the platform is 18-34 totaling 50% of the platform demographic. 275M MAU is not "some".

The IG and Threads connection is what I dislike the most about it

No thanks. I use Reddit for everything forum releated, it is free and far superior in every way, especially because it has actual active communities called "subreddits". I feel home at Reddit, while I feel depressed when I visit Threads/Facebook.

Yes it is. It’s not All, therefore it has to be some by definition
