Criminy meta is so creepy. Im gonna have to start wearing a mask just so I can maintain my privacy.
They might want to reconsider that first dystopian statement after Ring’s very bad post-Super Bowl week. And people like Amazon/Ring way more as a company than Meta. Good luck Zuck.

Thankfully, this absolutely breaches European GDPR legislative, essentially making this function outright banned in 30-ish countries.

This is some real life dystopian nightmare bs. Also, really good time to look in the mirror and ask yourself: are my social media profiles still a good idea?
Hint: no, they're not. Delete them all. This is what happens when you use a free service offered by trillion dollar companies, and hand over all of your pics and data...you are quite literally the product and the company does as it wants with it.
Don't want to be tagged? Don't let Meta, Apple, Google, X, or anyone else have any more info than absolutely necessary. Don't share data for research. Don't make a profile everywhere with your picture "just in case".

The GLASSHOLES are back.
A lot of people wearing these are gonna get punched in the face. People are gonna get banned from clubs, concerts, schools... We've been through this with Google Glass.
I wouldn't wear them because face computers are stupid, but also because it's Meta, but mostly because I know these will be a magnet for violence and I like my face as it is.

Although it might be helpful to people with the mentioned diagnosis, the problem is who’s behind the tech. A company which has publicly admitted to manipulate facts and people’s opinions.
Countries need to ban this, there is no difference between this and using my iPhone to record people. Meta is truly a company that add zero value to the world. I would be completely out of their products if not for Whatsapp.

I have yet to hear/read about a use case for these (or any other “smart glasses”) that meaningfully enhances the life of the wearer aside from potential uses for people with a disability. Combined with the potential for disregard for privacy for those in the line of sight makes these even less compelling for anyone who isn’t a straight up stalker.

I say it’s useful in that I’m a little bit face blind, so having these in social and/or work situations would be a lifeline for me.
Either that or I’m good with the general population all needing to wear ID badges on lanyards with their name and photo clearly displayed…
…Which clearly wouldn’t be dystopian either haha!
