It’s what you are asking for called Craigslist?

Craigslist is an absolute abandonware ghost town now where I go.

I've been cross posting to FB & CL in Seattle, Portland and Boise for the last few years and sold NOTHING on CL.

Usually I get not even a single inquiry from the CL listings and if I do it's for someone who wants to "trade their old motor bike" or some other junk.

It's not a small sample size either. I've probably sold 100+ tech items on FBM in the last couple years.

WhatsApp is still widely relevant, but I can't help but think we're seeing their other products start to be discussed in the same manner we years ago began talking about AOL and Yahoo.
Unfortunately not.

Facebook numbers still growing, same with Instagram, Threads has overtaken its main competitor (X).

At this point, they’re just copying every successful app because nobody cares about Facebook anymore.

Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, Locket, Reddit… what’s next?

☝️

I totally agree with you. I would not be surprised if they come up with something like Quora or even LinkedIn.

Threads has not overtaken X, that is a virtual number since Meta is counting the impressions on Instagram as if they were interacted in Threads… yeah, some people may click and activate an account, but if you dig deeper you will see that X has more real active users and log ins.

... The app supports anonymized usernames for public interactions, similar to the option already available on Facebook, though group administrators can still see the real identities behind those accounts. ...

Than it's not even remotely "anonymized", is it? Anyone on Facebook can create a new group. All that a nefarious actor needs to do to sus out real identities is create a group forum that ostensibly represents the interests of their target, and advertise it in a forum that they know their target frequents. Suddenly, with a single post, "anonymous" vanishes into the mist like the illusion that it always was. Seems to me that, this possibility alone is going to push a fair number of security minded people away from it.

Besides... if I'm being honest, I can't even keep up with all of the posts here on the MacRumors forum -- which is a single forum focused on a subset of my interests. I certainly don't need yet more forum traffic to not be able to keep up with!

About 15 years ago, it was. It's extremely dead today.

Since we are talking about it, I just pulled up Boise CL computer section.

Don't miss the "factory sealed" Intel Macbook Air ... or as I call them, "DogSlowBooks"

May as well call it "Junk List" instead of Craigslist

Sure glad they have the "cryptocurrency OK" (for payments) sort checkbox.
I definitely want to use crypto to buy an old Acer, Dell or HP hunk of junk. 😂

It’s just a single global store. Sign in with a US account if you want it 🤷‍♂️
No it’s not. Developers choose where their apps show up (unfortunately). So some short sighted minds do exactly like this for public transportation apps in cities and countries in which they operate not realizing that tourists come from all over the world with different countries set in their AppleIDs. Even if you know how to do it (a minority) it is a pain to switch and not without side effects.

Edit: NOPE. The Group Management page is a mess. The app only exists to entice me into joining other groups. I was instantly hit with an endless scroll of groups I don't follow. Instant delete.

This is actually good news (I think). Facebook has become so lame with ads and suggested content, but I go on there to manage a couple groups. This sounds like it will let me just do the groups without any of the other distraction.

Mark is a close second behind Scam Altman that just needs to leave the tech industry.
Can change the name to meta or anything else he wants, it’s still Facebook and it’s outdated. At this point mark is just throwing anything he can at the walls to see what sticks. Definitely won’t be using this app. All Mark’s obsessed with is selling out users data for $$$. Not the experience, not the usefulness…just getting money off of you.

You are wondering who this is for? Me.

I deleted facebook years ago because it was a dumpster fire for the most part. What I missed were the gardening or neighborhood groups that I was in. Also, the only webpage some local businesses have is a facebook page. I created a new account, didn't add any friends and didn't use my real name. That was a much better experience, but you still got a bunch of algorithmic stuff piled on. If I can just use it for forums and the like...great.

Same for me ... only thing I use FB for is Marketplace, and I only do that on desktop, in a Firefox Site Container, with several add ons to de-horrify the experience.

Meta is such a freaking awful company.
I'm shocked you can still trade stuff on FB Marketplace for free.
I guess they are making a ton of money off any time you spend on there, otherwise they would charge absurd 25% fees on top of income and sales taxes like ebay does...

My wife will search something on FB Marketplace, and I'll see it pop up on my phone days later in an ad....

I have serious router level ad blocking at the house but FB still tracks her behavior and somehow knows I'm related to her and as soon as we leave the safety of our router, FB bombs me with ads 😀

FB Messenger Lite was the only Meta product I ever used and they nuked it. Horrible company. And still sucks at its original purpose of finding and talking to classmates or friends.

Somehow, Meta has been a great stock to own though.

Very much so. I'm a Mod in a few large ones and it's constant banning of them. It's also alarming how many people fall for them.
In my interests, not at all. I prefer FB groups over reddit. Reddit has been taken over by karma bait and threads derail into tangents trying to one up each other with wit.

Good to know about this new app. Probably I won't be using it always but will use it initially and try it out.

My town supposedly has a vibrant local group. I’m not on FB so I can’t access it. But I feel like I’m missing out on hyperlocal discussions and news. Joining for the sake of getting the group is something I’ve considered. Frustrating.
