So, what about the Black album? Which side of the equation does it fall on? :D

IMO, the the latter. And Justice for All and The Black Album both killed my interest in Metallica.

The only really good Metallica albums were the first album through Master of Puppets. After that, it was all about getting on MTV and at that point they became a self-parody and their music lost a lot of the edge and impact. Also, they blinked when the grunge thing hit. Instead of sticking to their guns, they went all pseudo-grungy which told me that they were more interested in being loved than loving what they did.

Huh? It's all there, at least on the US store. Of course, I already had most of it on CD or LP, so....

EDIT: Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over? I just went to look and there aren't any FZ albums any more. That's really, really weird. Do they ever pull stuff from ITMS? I know the whole catalog used to be there, as I was pondering giving my sister a chunk of it for her birthday back in May....

Check again... The page is still there but only one album left. Ensemble Ambrosias. Either they are making some maintenance repairs or they have been pulled for good.

You think Kill 'em All was better than Justice? Ah well, to each his own.

hmm metallica was a spearhead in the no music pirating. That means BLLAAAAA to me if you acutally care about music u should be stoked that people are listening. Theyre already rich as all gedout ne way.

How could they have rejected Aquaman as a series? I'm sure it would have been a huge hit.
Don't believe the positive reviews posted on iTMS. They are all lies. Most of it concerns how they can't believe CW didn't pick it up as a series. I'll tell you. I saw it, and it was wretched. Truly awful acting, and extremely corny dialog.

I sure hope not. iTMS w/o FZ is like a turkey dinner w/o the lumpy gravy.

;)

i'm still kind of on the fence about file sharing and all that... i used to download music like most everyone i know, but i've all but completely stopped with music except for albums that i or my parents have owned and don't use... such as cassette tapes and butchered cd's that don't work but are still laying around the house uselessly...

metallica irritated me.. i'm not sure... i always liked their music... but something about siding with the RIAA just set me off. buying retail cd's is a huge ripoff IMO, and i have yet to buy a song on iTunes or any other online service. i'm not calling anyone out, i'm just saying that i personnally can't bring myself to do it

Hmm...
It just amazes me the amount of disrespect there is especially from heavy metal fans ( i know this is a mac based site im just saying) for a band that pretty much started heavy metals popularity. No everything after Master of Puppets doesn't suck. If anyone has heard any of the St. Anger songs live their opinions turn rather quickly about how they sound. If you have heard Metallicas newest song it is still heavy metal. Besides so what if they do a different style. When you go to their concerts most of it is the old stuff anyhow.

I saw them in albany in '04 and they played Outlaw Torn. It hadn't been played live in it's entirtey since the S&M concert and that was one of the heaviest songs.

Before all of you people say how much they suck try and pick up an instrument and see how well you can play some of the songs they play and to keep in time.

As far as the covers comment. Metallicas covers are awesome. They completley change a song and make it as if they wrote it. They don't just cover a song. Soemthing I just came to realize is Johnny Cash did alot of cover songs, and I never hear him being critized for it.

Yeah Metallica are getting old, but the fire is still there. Go to a live show and tell me when your done that they suck.

Metallica helped to create iTunes

If it weren't for Metallica suing Napster and really getting attention drawn to illegal filesharing in 2000, Apple wouldn't have had the strong position of "Legal downloading" -- it just wouldn't have made the impact without people getting in trouble with the law.

The RIAA probably caused millions of people to stop downloading illegally. Because of this, Apple was able to offer the legal alternative.

I'm no fan of the RIAA and I think music in general is way too expensive, but in the long run a lot of positive things happened because of the Metallica/RIAA association for pirating music.

While I don't share the same sentiment about the band that many fans do, Metallica can't be knocked simply because they didn't want to be stolen from. Would anyone here, as an artist, want millions of your CDs in stores collecting dust while everyone just downloaded your work by the millions without paying a cent? I doubt it. Stealing from a rich man is the same as still stealing from anyone else. Saying "he can afford to be ripped off" is no excuse.

What kind of fan are you if the band you "like" is upset about theft and you have a beef with them for trying to stop it? Sounds extremely selfish. Doesn't seem like much of a fan.

I'm glad Metallica is now on iTunes. I'm glad they're offering their music as individual tracks. And I'm glad they're getting paid when a song they recorded is downloaded. In my opinion, it's about time.

music IS too expensive. and Metallica helped the RIAA. i would have liked to see downloading drive them into the ground until they had to cut prices to a lower level. a 2-cent cd should not be $16+.
