It will be interesting to see what the rumored cameras on the AirPods have in terms of functionality. I know people already use their Apple Watches to record things around them and conversations on the down low.

People also use their phone cameras in a similar way. I have a friend who works at a cafe and he see's so many people pretending to look at their phones but are taking pictures of people. Really weird stuff.

I know this will be unpopular.
But personally if Meta (or anyone else) felt "I" was important and interesting enough to want to "watch" and "Monitor" I'd actually feel nice and I was THAT interesting to warrant their attention.

Sadly I think I need to accept (and I think everyone else here needs to also understand) We, as individuals are simply not THAT interesting to actually take any real notice of.

Glasses like this could be so useful... COULD. But in a world of sociopaths like Zuckerberg, there's no way. He wanted to spy on all of us in the metaverse and that didn't pan out, so now he wants us outfitted with 24/7 surveillance devices in the real world. Naw.

I think tech leadership brains are broken.

When concepts like this don't get killed immediately, internally, before anyone out in the public even hears about it ... things are profoundly broken.

Respectfully
"NO"

I will not get used to it and people should vociferously push back on things this dystopian and absolutely not be defeatist and just "accept it".
Its coming dude. Yes we can fight it, but it's coming. I wouldn't mind coming back here in a few years where we can discuss the fact that we have even more of a surveillance state, (both public and state), than we do now.
What we'll end uo with is a society where the ONLY place(s) that are private is your Home and high security state institutions.
We are all part of the problem. We all have phones and recording devices and use them where and when we want regardless of others feeling.
I see audio videos and whilst I agree that they should have the right, I also think that just because you can doesn't mean you should. I'm not sure that we're heading into a more caring and considerate society.

No offense, but it is you who is not being realistic. First of all, they may look similar but these aren't ordinary glasses people wear day to day. Secondly, I work in IT, and I am a huge tech gadget person. I've owned 11 foldables and 2 flips alone, among many other devices. I even owned Google Glass back in the day, because the HUD was amazing, especially for its time. I never recorded anyone or took pictures of anyone without their consent. I would never have bought them if they recorded or took photos constantly, as that is beyond weird. Also, I liked the fact that Google Glass didn't look like regular glasses or sunglasses. These glasses are just plan creepy on every level. How many people want to take a walk down a street or in the wilderness and record every moment of it? I know zero people who would do this. I'm sure there are a few out there, but not many. These glasses will be used by the creepy weirdos I'm referring to, and I honestly think it's disgusting that any company would sell something like this. We have enough privacy concerns as it is.
Let's agree to disagree.
I wear glasses at work, and if I had the chance to keep my hands free especially whilst investigating something I'd take that option in a heartbeat. Or I was on holiday, or I was driving and wanted to protect myself from dishonest police, or other drivers it's a no brainer.
As these get smaller and lighter and better quality it'll be a must have for quite a few, (assuming they can afford it).

You don't have to wear them all the time, and you can also tell people if you choose.
If they're cheap enough, comfortable enough and can be turned on/off at will, it'll be popular.

At least in EU this would be very illegal.

Damn EU nanny state, don't allowing megacorps to f up your privacy rights!

Someone will have to find a way of ID-ing these glasses in the open. I will have no quarrel with anyone who decides to stomp on them if found.
Unfortunately, some people will no doubt be tempted to recreate the Google Glasshole assault precedent.

I don't advocate violence, but I often understand it.

In our modern era, people have gotten a little too detached from "consequences for their actions" in the real world.

It's amazing all the things people say online that they'd never dare to say to someone's face, because they know what might understandably occur.

Thoughtful conduct and consideration has taken too far of a step back in our online world.

Someone has though the app is Android-only presently. It searches Bluetooth for the publicly assigned identifiers associated with the device's manufacturers. I think they're working on an iOS version.

What really gets me is people actually pay Meta to invade their privacy 🤦‍♂️.
Not just their privacy but those around them also. If a buddy of mine wears a meta glass around me, I will perv shame them until they stop. If they won't, they ain't a friend. Friends respect boundaries.
Imagine buying your own surveillance device, feeding an ad company your entire day, then wondering why everything you see becomes another targeted advert. Peak consumerism.
The final paragraph of Nineteen Eighty-Four.
He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.
People can't resist the Party, unless they're a Prole. I'm a prole--I don't have Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or any "social media" presence. People end up like Winston. They loved Facebook.😬
