I was starting to forget all about this one...

Metro Redux was released on Steam and is part of their mid week sale (50% off).

For the details on what the Redux versions included, check this.

The one on the MAS is not the Redux version. The Redux version has updated graphics.

Yes. I noticed the different system requirements on Steam... Not sure if I can run the games at decent setting on my late 2012 iMac.

I snagged both games yesterday. Couldn't resist! Metro 2033 is LITERALLY a slideshow. Haven't tried Last Light yet.

I'm not giving up on it yet, but I also have a late 2012 iMac, and it's so far unplayable.

I'll let you know if I have any positive news.

If it becomes available off steam, then I will get hold of a copy :)

I will probably just continue to play the original LL in Windows, but how is the new OS X version? The original was missing a lot of graphical effects.

Hmm, I have a 2010 Mac Pro with a flashed R9 280x, and Metro 2033 Redux, from the few hours I played yesterday, seems to be hitting a constant 60fps with everything except AA maxed out. (Yes, with OS X; I don't have a Boot Camp partition.) Honestly I was expecting much worse.

Ah. Maybe I should get the App Store version... At least my iMac meets the minimum requirement!

Still missing the ability to mess with the graphics much in OS X. Both don't run particularly well still. Metro 2033 doesn't want to use a custom resolution for whatever reason.

Disappointed.

Just got 2033 Redux today too and it's unplayably slow on a brand new late 2014 15" rMBP with the 750M, too. This has to be some kind of bug. The game is not that much more graphically intense than the old non redux Last Light and that ran perfectly playable on a mid 2010 MBP with a measly GeForce 330M.

I got this on the PS4 but was $19.99 when I got it. Graphics are simply amazing, definitely get it. Besides "Last Of us" remastered I would say that Metro Redux is the best looking game on the PS4.

This is probably a case of needing to meet the recommended (vs required) specs for this to run even half decent from what I just read above:

MINIMUM:
OS: OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks or newer
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750m 1GB / Radeon HD7950 3GB
Hard Drive: 10 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:
OS: OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks or newer
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775m 2GB
Hard Drive: 10 GB available space

Although really, the minimum should at least run 30fps with settings turned down. If it can't do that the stated system requirements are wrong.

It is worthy of note that in the case of the first game of the two, it is not only a graphics upgrade but there are gameplay improvements in response to criticism of the first game. If I recall correctly some of this had to do with difficulty but it may have been some other annoyance or annoyances corrected. I can't recall what I read about this for sure now but it bears looking into on say, the Steam forum for the new release of Metro 2033 before making a decision about which one to play.

As for the second game, I recall reading no gameplay changes were needed or made there, just the graphics upgrade which was said to be less pronounced than with the first game where the second came out later.

Sorry I am being lazy but I don't feel like looking up the details at the moment. I am sure though that I read 2033 offered more than just a graphics upgrade so anybody choosing between the new and old Mac versions should check into that.

As I understand, 2033 Redux uses the Last Light engine, and Last Light Redux is just a minor tweak. So it seems like the requirements and performance for both Reduxes should be about the same as Last Light (original).

I'm wondering if these are 4A's first Mac games? There are bound to be patches forthcoming.

I also noticed a difference in performance between the two on my iMac. 2033 runs in seconds per frame, not frames per second! Last Light runs at about 2-3 fps, tops, all settings to lowest possible.

Pay attention to the requirements!! Don't do as I did and figured they overstated them.

They did not!

Also, did anyone else notice the video options in 2033's options?? Despite being VERY limited in things the game lets you tweak (compared to Windows), it has a checkbox for PhysX.

Hmmmm.....ever the optimist for hardware accelerated PhysX in OS X.

The only way to bypass the resolution problem I've found is to set the desktop to run at the resolution you want the game to run at before launching.

Seems to run alright at 1600x900 for me.

Yes, I checked that box. I'm using a R9 280x, so it wouldn't be hardware accelerated, but it works fine with no apparent slowdowns, assuming it actually does anything.

Has anyone with an nVidia GPU played this yet and tried to enable PhysX?

Further, I don't know what to chalk it up to, but I fired up Last Light again an hour ago (after applying Apple's last Yosemite update), and I did notice a slight improvement in frame rate. It's still frustrating and not playable, but it was there.

It could also mean that my Time Machine backup could have been running yesterday when I got the dreadful results.

So...

Going to chime in with my experience of metro last night, not the redux, apologies if I've missed the gist of this thread, but it runs fine at med setting at 1900x1200 on my ACD linked to my rmbp 10.1 with 650m so folks shouldn't be put off buying a version of this game. OS X version not windows.

No surprise there, Last Light non Redux ran fine on a 2010 MBP with a 330M.

On 2033 Redux I've tried setting the desktop to 1280x800 equivalent and running it over to the TV at only 720p and both have not resulted in enough improvement to bring the frame rates up considerably and it still feels like treacle. On Windows 7 in bootcamp on the same machine, not only can I choose what resolution I want to run in game, it also runs buttersmooth at 1680x1050. So clearly, it's not the requirements that are the actual problem, rather there's a problem that needs to be fixed at least for those affected and judging from the various posts on steam, IMG and here, there are quite a few ppl who can't run it properly atm.
