iPhone: Ripping off the Mexican consumer. Highway robbery is peanuts, by comparison.

The new iPhone is now available in Mexico, exclusively through Telcel, at outrageous rates. The ripoff comes in two parts; the only unlimited access plan has a monthly cost of about $138.00, bundled with phone service. Yes, that is correct. By including a few more monthly minutes than the previously available plans, the real cost of the iPhone is well hidden.

The monthly cost of the internet access plan was initially $79 a month, when it was offered for a few days as an add-on to existing plans, which are normally between $40 and $60 per month. But now Telcel (owned by Carlos Slim, perhaps the world´s richest man, according to Forbes) has decided to bundle, and hide, the cost.

Wasn´t technology supposed to help the masses and not the super rich, as in this case? Can´t Steve Jobs find less unsavory business partners and make mass access cheaper? It´s only a question :).

As a matter of fact, it's not capitalism.
