I've bought a manufacturer refurbished cellular unit from eBay, 3rd party, device is almost like new, but upon checking for warranty on Apple's website it says none. This iPad came out on June of 2017, so I'm thinking that it should at least be warranted until then? The seller did state that existing warranty on the device might not be available, but I'm just thinking why the original warranty is removed from this device.

Possible aftermarket/third-party repair?

Did you check and see if they were Authorized Apple sellers on Apple.com? Some stores like Best Buy, MacMall, Small Dog will have refurbish, and they will give you a warrantee but not the same as Apple. Also, depending where the repairs were made, Apple may not honor them?

If you have a receipt and if by chance your device has problems under a year, you might be ok to take to Apple for repairs. How much did you save because there has been a ton of deals on the 10.5 iPads.

They said it was an authorized shop, but even if it wasn't, shouldn't the original warranty be still there?
Warranty is typically voided if it's serviced by an unauthorized repair shop (and I actually don't know of any authorized repair facilities in the US apart from Apple).

Think of it this way, if you had tried a DIY repair, it's gonna be difficult for Apple to know if the product is actually defective or if it was something you did yourself which broke it.

I paid $630 for the 256gb cellular version. I also had $100 eBay bucks.

I would only trust Apple refurbished in this area.

Yeah - I have checked eBay and there are some good buys but I never can quite get the full info about the refurbish process, if it has a warranty or not, etc, etc. Very fleeting regarding tangible information. You feel like you are simply rolling the dice, even with sellers that have great feedback. I dunno. I do want a 10.5 Pro but will just wait for sales/deals from Apple, Best Buy or places I can really trust. Even Amazon is iffy since they have a ton of 3rd party sellers that label them as refurbs which as I said could mean anything.

I believe they have 10.5 refurbished iPad's available on their site already.

Nice. I just hope that nothing goes wrong with it. Keep your receipts. I remember buying a refurb from Best Buy and had to take it back to Apple. I had my receipt from Best Buy just incase. (I think that's what I did). You can send your info to Apple to make sure you have the manufacture warrantee. Maybe they will have some insight on this.

There is no real receipt. I actually called into apple support today and spoke with someone in the agreement Dept. He said these iPads are sold as-is to 3rd parties, and the warranty terminates then. Hence I don't see any warranty on my unit. Apple products does have good quality products, but I've had my fair share of issues. I'm gonna request for a return this time.

Is it truly a "Manufacturer Refurbished" unit as opposed to simply "Refurbished"? The former means Apple did the refurbishing. Since Apple says they sold it "as-is" to the third party, it sounds like they opted to sell it off rather than refurbish it. Maybe it's economically to their advantage to do so....they don't need to spend the parts/labor on the refurbishment and still get a decent wholesale price for it. However if the eBay seller was claiming it was "Manufacturer Refurbished", you could use this info to claim that they misrepresented the product if they initially refuse to take it back. You may even want to call Apple again and get them to explicitly state that the unit is NOT Manufacturer Refurbished.
