ok guys, my stupid Office is giving me a lot of problems.

the second i do the Sp1 update and the april 14th update 12.1.7 i think it is, it stops running. it keeps asking to update theni close cuz it says ntn to update and then there is nothing so i do it again same thing. just doesnt open.

and i googled and i know a LOT of people have had this problem.

I also deleted the 2 files that most ppl said should work but when i put in my serial key after i deleted it the "continue" button doesn't take it ot hte next page. It keeps getting clicked but it doesn't respond.

help plz im losing my mind here!

Uninstall it, then open "Library/preferences and delete the office plist file, then reinstall it.

com.microsoft.autoupdate2.plist (through) com.microsoft.Word.plist

i found that file u listed...is that the one u said to delete? sorry if imissed that.

also, what does that do by deleting it? prevents me from updating again?

There was some bug with the update that is usually fixed if you delete these two files:

Code:
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist

I assumed you already did this:

You need to remove all traces of office, reinstall, and NOT install SP1.

That error comes up when SP1 doesn't like your serial number, for whatever reason.

The most likely reasons for an unsuccessful update are as follows:

* You have moved your Office folder out of Applications to somewhere else.
* You have manually deleted something out of your Office folder (say, an application that you don't use).
* You've run an application like Monolingual or Xslimmer.
* Your serial number is invalid.

If it's the first one, you can simply move the Office folder back to the Applications folder, and it will work.

If it's the second one or the third one, you'll need to uninstall Office and reinstall it.

If your serial number is invalid, you'll need to delete the plist files (as someone else said in this thread) and re-enter your serial number. If the Continue button is greyed out, that means that you're not entering the right number of characters for your serial number. Make sure that you're using the right number (it's what's printed on the envelope that the Office disc is in -- it's not the Product Identifier Key, which is the number that is returned to you by Office after you type in your serial number).

If you're still stuck, you can call tech support. With your legal purchase of Office 2008, you get two free calls/emails to tech support. That link will give you the right phone number/email address for your region.

Regards,
Nadyne.
