Mic/remote very low level on iPhone X

I had an iPhone 7 Plus previously and used two different headphones with mic/remote cable.
On telephone calls they worked fine
Now I have an iPhone X, I find both cables are unusable due to their low level mic signals.
Has anybody else found a similar issue?
