Pixar and Disney already renewed their deal. That happened several months ago after Eisner was stripped of his Chairman of the Board title. The other members of Disney's board and Disney shareholders realized how important a partnership with Pixar was, and Eisner was overruled.

EDIT: I was wrong, they have simply resumed talks. No deal was struck.

Hehe, I actually thought they had struck a deal as well. I remember something about Disney really wanting to (ie: desperately) seek a deal with Pixar, so they signed a deal. :)

I guess the story only mentioned that they resumed talks. Not sure.

The pathetic part is that the Disney board were fully aware of the guy's limitations when they hired him, and went ahead and did it anyway, somehow believing that doing anything at all quickly was better than waiting longer to do the right thing. Maybe it's not quite as pathetic as having Eisner's loudest detractors being the very people who recommended him for the job, but it's all related I suppose.

Taking a company from $1.7 billion to a projected $30 billion in revenues is no mean task!

Eisner should have just left 5 years ago before being forced out.

It's probably about time this happened. After Roy Disney left essentially because of him, I figured it wouldn't be that long before he left. Anyone read he resignation letter? Ouch. Hopefully Pixar can figure out some plan, although it's cool that they were able to stand up for themselves. As long as Pixar is making movies I don't care who is their distributer.

I think it just great that Eisner is moving on. He should have a while ago - as for Jobs taking over, I don't think its a good idea. He's already got enough going on with Pixar and Apple. He'd be spreading himself a little thin, don't you think?

D

That would be my concern also Mr. Anderson. I don't want Steve to spread himself too thin. Apple & Pixar need his full attention. Apple even more so, I think that it's the love of his life in the business world.

Anyone else think Eisner is astonishingly odd looking? Almost ugly? ;)

He does seem to have a fair amount of forehead acreage.

As long as Steve stays true with Apple and continues to lead them in the right direction, I don't care if he takes a job as Senior Overlord of the Galaxy.

This is good news. I consulted on a project at Disney Corporate for 15 months and it blew me away how many incompetent people work there. Disney Corporate has a habit of getting rid of the best executives and keeping the ones who are better at kiss arse instead of making money. If it were not for Finding Nemo and Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney would have had a really bad financial year.

Eisner's replacement will have to make some major changes when he/she takes over. The first thing they will have to do is change the corporate culture. Right now all of the business units operate in complete silos. There is very little communication between them which results in a lot of worked being duplicated. ABC hates the fact Disney bought them, ESPN won't even address the fact they are owned by Disney, Buena Vista pictures prefers not to communicate with Disney Corporate. The only department being run by someone with a clear vision of what is needed is Disney Consumer Products.

Whoever takes over will have to clean house, starting from the top. It will be a good day for The Walt Disney Company when Eisner is gone.

I think part of the problem with Disney is that they own ABC and ESPN, those should be run as separate companies. ESPN can run itself without the need for Disney, but Disney needs them to make money. It is the only real profit that Disney makes. The only help to ABC right now is that ESPN is running the sports department for ABC so I think ESPN and ABC should spin off away from Disney and become a separate joint company. Why did Disney buy ESPN and ABC to begin with, what was there thinking and what was the original purpose, we know its not for quality entertainment, Disney should just call it the Regis company.

I've heard he is grooming one of his yes-men. That's just what Disney needs. I've also heard that the board is not happy about that, so they may find someone themselves. I don't know if Steve would be perfect for it, but they need somebody good to fix the mess Disney has become. Even if they can't return it to it's former glory, they can at least try to make it less evil. I mean, they're all greedy corporations. But some are worse than others, whereas some actually contribute to society in a postive way, if you know what I mean. ;)

Of course, it's 2 years away... but maybe they'll fire him first. :p

They definitely won't fire him until a suitable replacement is found. Why haven't they thought about Roy Disney or at least as an interim CEO?

Yes you are right he is grooming a yes man to take over for him. Hopefully the board will find someone with a backbone and creativity to move the company forward. As with most large corportions Disney is filled with yes men/women and people just hanging on to collect a check. I just hope they don't bring Steve Jobs in the Disney-hell.
