The problem…?

Is that EVERYONE on earth knows what Jobs looked like. You can't fake this one, sorry Boyle.

This movie isn't suffering from an actor that doesn't look like Jobs, its suffering from covering a subject that is still very fresh and relevant in our everyday lives. That said there really isn't a human being that can pull this roll off as Steve's photos are still splashed on news and media to this day. Some say Kutcher looked more like him but did they help the movie at all, did it help convince anyone that was Jobs on the screen. Not even close.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one, brother. 50/50, anyway. There were times in that movie that I wanted to give him hella kudos as far as resemblance. Not that he is responsible for how he looks.

Sorry. Emotionally, there is zero connection for me. It feels like he isn't even trying to be Jobs. All I can say is Fassbender better damned well have the nuances and inflections and body language down to a science.

You sure can tell a lot from a picture of a picture.

They should fire the director.

This movie has the wrong director. This is not opinion. It's fact.

A great director, directs. They understand detail and nuances. The ensure props, postures and mannerisms are spot on. An actor interprets and is the subject of direction.

In this case from the poster alone it is clear that the director has failed. If the director has failed here then there is a good chance they will fail completely.

Any director worth their salt would have had the hair sorted, the pose sorted. We know Michael Fassbender is a top notch actor. The director... meh.

This movie may have the wrong director in your opinion, but, given that Danny Boyle has won BAFTA Awards, Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards, "meh" is a wholly inaccurate descriptor.

Danny Boyle is one of the most diverse and versatile directors in Hollywood. Given the unique premise of this film, he should be able to knock it out of the ballpark.

You don't know what you're talking about.

There were times when I thought he shone. Especially when he was pissed off, it got uncanny at times. I would blame the director and producers more than Ashton. That movie was a 6/10 with the possibility of being an 8.5/10, even a 9/10.

The story was rushed and there were so many important parts that were left out. It should have been titled "Jobs at Apple 1974-1996".

Did anyone notice that weird walk? I haven't seen a lot of video of Steve walking, but never noticed it in his presentations.

I think Ashton may have exaggerated it but I think I remember Steve walking a bit on his tippy toes so I think it was sorta similar.

I read the script last night (have some industry insider friends). It's wonderfully written. It is a tad too much like a stage-play, but I loved the characterizations so much that I forgave it.

So, in short, it's pretty great.

That said, I still had a hard time picturing either Fassbender or Rogen in either role. This pic isn't very reassuring either, but what are you gonna do?

One of us is clearly wrong. We'll mostly likely know who after the film is released.

I have an opinion and you have an opinion. They're both different. It's okay to have different opinions. When we see the movie we'll have a better idea who was closer to the mark. You're positive about DB from his past work doing a great job with this. He could still produce a lemon. From what I've seen in the poster, if that's for real, then the movie is in trouble IMHO. If the poster is not real then I have nothing to pass judgement on. Let's hope you're right because a great SJ movie is what we both want. I assume.

Fassbender is a wonderful actor. But gut feeling tells me this movie is going to bomb. What is less believable is Seth Rogen as The Woz. And I love Seth but he is more FREAK like Woz is more GEEK. Perhaps there is a reason Christian Bale declined the offer. Better production, script, and director than the Ashton Kutcher Jobs which was quite forgettable.

We will just see how great a performer Fassbender truly is because Seth isnt going to save it and Bale who looks closer to SJ didnt want any part with it. Fassbender may need to pull a Heath Ledger like performance from The Dark Knight. Noah Wyle doesnt look too much like SJ either but his performance saved that flick.

A movie can still be excellent without the actor looking like the real person.

Just like in Schindler's list

Image

This worked because, before the movie, few people had heard of Schindler, and even fewer knew what he looked like.

----------

Why does he have to look like Jobs? It is a movie, it doesn't matter what he looks like.

Right, cause in a movie the visuals are the least important thing.…

----------

Exactly. Will you ever hear anyone say, 'you know Citizen Kane is a great film and all, but Orson Welles looks nothing like William Randolph Hearst'!

Strictly speaking, Welles doesn't play Hearst. He plays Kane.

----------

It did just dawn on me that Anthony Hopkins didn't look a thing like nixon, but still pulled off a perfect act...so yeah, let's wait and see...

At least they got his hairstyle right.
