Hi everyone

I'm having an issue with my MacBook Pro. For years I relied on Moshi iVisor's to keep dust, hair, and smudges off my screen. When I upgraded to the M3 MBP I discovered because of design changes that Moshi was no longer making them. Not the end of the world, but annoying. However about 6 months ago when cleaning my screen I noticed small scratches and an indentation (like a pen pressed into the screen). This seemed odd as I'm pretty obsessive about my screen and doing that on accident would have made for a terrible day. But with Apple Care+ I took it in and they replaced the screen. Great! Here we are a few months later and the scratches are back. No major indentation this time but still visible scratched on a white background.

I have found a few references here and there but I was hoping for some more recent accounts about anyone experiencing a similar issue with Macbook's made in the last couple of years. Alternatively, is this a known issue with this model?

In the past I've used Whoosh! Though usually just a microfiber cloth.
It sounds like there may have been unseen particles on your cloth that created the scratches. In the future, use a very soft feather duster to remove any dust particles from the screen and be very careful not to get fingerprints on the screen. Unless you are traveling with your Mac, it is best to keep it open all the time. That way the screen stays a lot cleaner.

This is intended to be a serious reply.

My advice:
DON'T "clean the screen" so much.

As far as I know, MPBs still have a sprayed-on anti-glare coating. It's just "particles" sprayed onto the screen.

Any time you "clean" it, you're rubbing against those particles, and some may start to flake off.

Back when Apple first started doing this, users who were too pro-active with screen cleaning actually started to rub right through the coating -- hence, the condition know as "StainGate".

Apple has improved the coating in recent years. But... again... it's still sprayed on, and I reckon it can still be scraped OFF if one isn't very careful about cleaning.

I recommend just "dusting" (no pressure) across the surface of the display to brush off small stuff on the surface.

If something won't come off that way, then a dampened cloth with AS LITTLE PRESSURE AS POSSIBLE to remove it.

BEST METHOD:
Don't get the display dirty in the first place.

My 2021 MBP still looks fine.
I almost NEVER do anything more than dust the surface of the display...

Interesting. I was pretty skeptical but I'll try an alternative cleaning cloth and less pressure - after my next Apple Care replacement when I can't take it anymore. The MBP is run consistently in clamshell mode so perhaps that's baking in some of the dust. Still curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. I've had MacBooks for 20 years and this is a first.

Thanks everyone!

Sounds to me like you'd do better with something like a Mini. Then you won't have to worry about scratches to the display...
