Everything comes to an end sooner or later. Whether it's the camera technology or the display. In the beginning, it's easy to achieve massive improvements. But the more advanced and complex a technology becomes, the more expensive it becomes and the improvements are only marginal.

So it seems we have reached that tipping point. MicroLED is an impressive technology and Apple could make it, but it could lose margin as the price of an iPhone is already maxed out.
