The microphone on my MBA no longers recives input.

The only why of getting an reading on the indicators is by clicking the "use ambient noise reduction" toggle on and of in the sound preferences panel.

Has anyone else experienced this or got any suggestions on how to fix it?

This must be an uncommon problem, since this 3-and-a-half year old thread is the only one I found about the mic on a MBA failing.

My MBA's mic stopped working about six weeks ago in the middle of a FaceTime call. The only audio in that the computer now registers is vibration from tapping on the case. Since my MBA is over 16 months old (it's a 1st gen 11.6), I haven't taken it in for repair.

Instead I just started plugging in my iPhone earbuds for video calls. I don't look as pretty, but it works :)

Its funny that you mention this. My sister's MBP's internal microphone has been doing the same thing.

She took it to the Apple Store, and they say it is an uncommon issue. They "fixed" it for free under warranty, but the microphone has since stopped working again!:mad:
