The microphone is on the left side of the bottom chassis. Wtf? Given that MBAs are the most likely to be used for video chat in outdoor and noisy places... I can see how people are going to be forced to use this microphone.

It's the return of sidetalking!

Macs already have some of the best-tuned mics around. I stopped using my headset because the built-in mic worked better. But with the mic pointed at the person to the left of the user instead of the user, I really wonder ...

Probably Apple already tested it a lot.

What I'm wondering is... Isn't the speaker too close to the mic?

When using outdoors or in noisy places it's always a better idea to use a proper microphone. Something that is a bit closer to your mouth and has noise cancellation. The microphone in the device itself will receive far too many noise from the environment it's in.
