That Vista will ship in January? Don't really understand the title.

I wonder if the "other changes" include incorporating even more creative ways for hackers to remotely install spyware and malware through the new Internet browser without your knowledge.

😀 Well, they do have that new upgrade-thing where you can purchase one of the crippled versions of Vista and upgrade it over the internet later. I wouldn't be 100% surprised it someone exploited a bug in that system.

So when will see XP start to disappear? I need to buy XP Home to run on parallels. I am not paying 200+ for SuberDuper Ultimate Vista edition.

It will take a really really long time for people to stop using XP. Windows users do not really like to upgrade it seems. Also, you'd be paying $400 for the Ultimate Edition. 😱

I do hope Apple do to Microsoft what Microsoft are/were/have been planning to do with Sony. Ah, a PS3 release date you say? We'll just have to use that as our Halo 3 release date. That'll do luvvly, thanks.

A majority aren't going to switch to Mac as long as the base price is double a regular dell computer. Even if it is worth it. The fact is if you want huge OSX %, you need to license out the software. If you want more hardware sale, you need to NOT license out the software. Cause no one would put up with the expense, opacity, and long update times with Apple if it wasnt for OS X.

It is absolutly correct the while people claim to want all kinds of security and features and graphics and so on. When it come to actually deciding what to buy the go for price over everything else.

But the following is not correct: "if you want huge OSX %, you need to license out the software". This does not logically follow. If Apple really wants market share they could offers a $250 Mac. No need to license the software.

The question is would Apple make more or less money if they had this huge marget share. My guess is less. There would not be much margin on a $250 mac and even if the thing solds in the milions a month they wouldn't make any money. In the long run Apple will win because the trend is for hardware to be cheaper. Soon (well maybe in 6 or 10 years) even the high end hardware will be so cheap no one will care about paying a 50% premium for Apple. Like Starbucks Coffee, no one cares they pay a 50% premium because it amounts to like 25 cents.

In short the "Apple Premium" will fall along with the total price of hardware. When the premium falls to the pocket change level Apple's market share will raise.

January 30, 2007, 10 minutes after Vista hits the shelves.

Provided MacWorld is still in early to mid January, I wonder if Apple will say anything in regards to this?

You better be quick about it.

The vendor that I normally purchase OEM versions of Win XP Pro from tells me that he is not able to get any more copies of Win XP of any type at this point. I plan to purchase one more copy from him at a local computer show this Saturday just to hold on to. Bet it might be worth something in about 6 months.

Five years, and they still use the registry. My prediction: This is the end for Microsoft. After WGA screws up legitimate consumers, people will be fed up enough to switch to Mac. Unless MS is secretly working on a new code base, they are dead.

Everytime MS releases a new OS, the same thing is said.

Please people- get off it. They're not going anywhere for quite a while so learn to accept it.

I'd do a quick search to see how easy it is to still get Windows 2000 before wasting your money. Wide spread sofware will never appreciate my friend.

No-one really goes out and buys a Microsoft OS unless they're rich or a little funny in the head. They get it included with the next Dell or whatever they buy.


I recall XP coming out and everyone thinking that it would fail....until they got their next computer...
