I hope they keep that player around. I dig how slim down it is compared to other bloat players.

I’ve been thinking of jumping ship back to Microsoft but it’s things like these that makes me wary. You buy into an ecosystem of products and MS just seems to continually fail at such products that contributes to the ecosystem (Microsoft band, phone, the zune, store etc). It makes you not want to invest in any new product they have as they have a tendency to fail and be abandoned.

And yet there is no windows store Spotify app.

Most Windows Store media apps (music, video) require Windows Media drivers. This isn't common in Europe where they prefer the Windows "N" editions that have all Windows Media drivers left out.

Regardless, Spotify definitely needs a Windows Store app for their non-European customers. Otherwise the downloadable Windows 10 app from their website works fine.

That's true in the consumer space. In the business world? Different story.

This reminds me to make fun of my friends who bought the brown Zunes.
Make all the fun you want of us that bought the brown (or any) Zune. Mine sure came in handy during Hurricane Irma when all the power and cell service was out. The trusty (rusty?) brown Zune kept me in touch with the world with its built in FM radio.

Not an MS music or streaming music fan, however, I did really take advantage of MS's free albums a couple of holiday seasons ago - I DL'ed around 70 "free" albums from the ABBA to Zedd, with some pretty hard to find deluxe sessions by the Allman Brothers (including Dreams and Fillmore East), Weezer, Beastie Boys, The Who, (R.I.P.) Tom Petty, George Strait, KISS, Muddy Waters, Shania, Smashing Pumpkins, the Stones…

Crap, no wonder MS was losing money on their venture - there were dozens of other albums I wasn't interested in but they were giving free downloads away. Thanks, MS. Bye, MS.

Surprising they don't just buy Spotify and integrate them w/ Groove, but keep the Spotify name, app, functionality and also the talented devs to run it all.

I don’t know. That’s exactly what they did with Skype, and they screwed it up pretty badly.

I don’t think Microsoft has any interest in exploring any new consumer services right now, and is trying to eliminate the ones that has that are not performing well — like Groove.

My thoughts exactly. Groove Music was easily the best music streaming service, the best music (and music video) player, and the best music store- the only thing it needed was better advertising. Spotify is a major downgrade from Groove, but if Microsoft could actually work with them to improve the app or just buy the company, then perhaps the experience could be improved to be nearly as good.
