I am running Office 365 on my early 2015 rMBP. Over the last few months (can't remember when this started) and I am unable to use Autoupdate for any of my MS apps. The only 'solution' I have found is to uninstall and download the newest versions.

They download just fine, they just won't install.

Run-in beta Big Sur, but wouldn't work for me in High Sierra either.

I am having exactly the same problem on my mbp (Mojave).
However, on my Mini (same version of Mojave) it has updated without any problem.

I think I will uninstall Office completely and re-install to see whether this will solve the problem.

Microsoft just released another update and the same error is happening again.

Clearly it is not reasonable having to uninstall and re-install office every time.
Anyone with a longer lasting solution?

I just had that happen on a new install of 365. Do you have any type of firewall or network filtering that has to allow the updater through? Maybe suspend it just to see?

I have two Macs, on the same network, running the same version of Mojave.
One updates fine, the other doesn’t.

For anyone with the same problem, one solution (suggested by Microsoft in one of their forums) is to install the update using the direct link on their website:

This has worked for me. Hopefully they will find a permanent fix at some point.

Glad to find this. The Aug. 10 2021 Updater gave install errors on three of my Macs and this saved me a lot of frustration and time.
