Because none of the nerdy head things have sales numbers to back it up.

Because while it is not new, it is new from a consumer viewpoint. Google Glass was good but expensive. I expect of Googlw Glass and Hololens was from Apple, your comment would be, its innovative and great

I take it you didn't read my original comment that he replied to. Apple waits until they've figured out a way to solve a problem. Right now there is no problem solved by manipulating a 3D to-do list that is visualized on your refrigerator. Maybe the Mars stuff, maybe 3D modeling, maybe gaming—but it's not going to be a big market for a very long time. If anyone would bring it mainstream it's Apple. Not saying they will, but their solutions are usually so obvious that everyone ends up copying them because DUH, it should have always been this way. Things as simple as removing keyboards from phones, using your finger as an input device with gestures, making a tablet OS with tap targets that humans can use, or new things like using the digital crown to control a watch interface. It's simple but refined. All of their best products come long after the initial market begins to form. Honestly considering how early the smart watch market is right now I'm surprised they're jumping in. But I'm also hesitant about what they've shown us so far.

Meanwhile Microsoft is always about putting out these flawless tech demo videos and rarely do they come through. Remember the Surface? It was originally this giant table that you put your phones on and they all magically talked to each other. Every living room was going to have this smart coffee table. Or what about their slate thing? The one with the fancy video showing it (splitting open?) like a digital notebook with this slick interface. That turned into the present Surface which isn't nearly as cool and rather expensive, complete with cooling fans. They always show off these fancy Kinect demos at E3 with projectors turning your whole living room into the game itself. Now they've largely abandoned the Kinect. The one that came with my Xbox One is hardly used beyond voice control because there aren't games for it.

Just don't count your eggs before they've hatched. Outside of specialized jobs and gaming, people don't want to wear giant headgear. This tech won't take off until it can look like normal glasses or even better—a contact lens. Apple is going to sit back and watch these guys make an idiot of themselves, and if things pan out they will release their own solution which is much more elegant. They do have patents on it, but unlike their competitors they have the class to keep any unfinished laboratory demos to themselves—outside of previewing groundbreaking new products a few months in advance.

Re: Microsoft Debuts 84-Inch Surface Hub Touch Display, HoloLens Augmented Reality He

It may cost a bot more, but it will serve the professionals a better platform to manage their thing on a bigger screen. I suppose it serves the best alternato to projector for PPt presentation or for giving some demo / presentation.
