Yeah, let's kick indie developers while they're down and only rely on GameLoft, Adobe, and Microsoft for our App Store apps.
No one is saying that; but the market reality is that it is tough to breakthrough with a product as an indie developer. As an indie, you probably realize the challenges you face, as an app store developer, better than I do but from my perspective a few reasons are:
1. There are so many apps that just getting yours in front of potential users is tough
2. Users expect apps to be free and complain about in app purchases, but also complain about a $5 price for a perpetual license
3. If you do come up with a novel idea there no doubt will be a dozen copycats in a few weeks, making it hard to stick out
That's why I chose to limit my development work to commercial clients where I tailor a specific solution; and can charge a reasonable price for the product and any ongoing support.
I like to support indie developers but I'm sure there are dozens of great programs I could use but never heard of.
It's great to have a passion and pursue it; but there's no assurance you will be successful in the market place; that's the reality. My passion is stand up comedy; but I can't quit my day job.
