Absolutely.. however, in the case of the XBox, it didn't take long for their Deficit=Profit scheme to pay off.

Well, except that the "profit" part hasn't happened yet, and isn't projected to happen for a while, either. 100% red ink (except for that one quarter where Halo 2 was released). They did capture a decent percentage of the market, though, so the "profit" part could happen someday. But Zune hasn't captured much of the market, so the "profit" thing is unlikely at best, especially as sales are declining even further. Long-term strategies are fine, but this is just silly.

Although I agree with your comment, I know that someone will make the exact same comment about the iPhone sales numbers (after one year) not being competition to giants like Nokia and Moto, ... and I won't agree with it. :)

But the iPhone is targeting only the top end of the mobile market. The Zune was supposed to be "the iPod killer" :)
