Lets try this one more time for the slow people in the room.
If MR is going to quote and article as a source, they should at least quote it correctly.
It's not MY source... it's the one MR is using to support it article.
Got it now or do I need to use crayons?

So many inaccuracies by arrogant Apple users in this thread who don't know what they're talking about.

They are still too expensive. What Microsoft needed to do was come out at $99 for about 6 months to a year. Yes, they would take a major loss in the short term, but hear me out.

You sell initially at a loss to get a lot of market share, because in today's world that is where it counts. Once they had established the marketshare, then they could sell at normal prices that they can make a profit off of.

This is assuming that people actually liked Windows tablets (clearly they don't).

Actually, I find that people who do use it, seem to like it. The problem is it's a first gen device, comparable to the iPad 1, not the current.

I agree, get crazy aggressive, maybe $200, move the product, get more market share and get with Surface 2.0 already.

I don't know about the surface rt, but I used a surface pro and it was actually really nice. I wish I had one for uni combined with one note. Bigger screen Would be nice, though.
So they mixed up the rt and pro big deal!!! Rt/ pro is a fail either way.

Wow.. talk about article fail.

Your source article for sales figures is from March 14. The Pro had only been out for a little over a month.
The 400,00 figure was for the Pro version, not the RT version.
Surface RT sold approx. 1.1 million units in the last quarter of 2012.
No other numbers have been released since.

I've fixed that error, it should have said that 400,000 Surface Pros had been sold, not the other way around. Sorry about that. Should be clarified now.

Why the hate?

I've been an avid Apple fan for a number of years, but recently I have actually been quite amazed at the progress Microsoft has been making in revolutionizing
the way touch screens are used in computers. Though many people may laugh at me when I say this, Windows 8 and the Surface RT/Pro remind me of the old days when Apple used to really innovate. I just wish Microsoft had the marketing expertise that Apple has in appealing to the average consumer.

I don't understand why people keep bashing the RT/Pro and saying it should be priced at $99, and such nonsense. It can do so many more things than the iPad and includes a full version of Office. It's the perfect mix of productivity and casual tablet use.

Also, why on earth should the Surface Pro be priced to compete with an iPad? It's a full-fledged computer, for goodness sakes! I'm not going to write a mid-term paper on an iPad, nor can the iPad handle programs like Visual Studio or Civilization. Please do your research next time and stop listening to tech blog writers who don't take the time to fully research the benefits/drawbacks of both products.

I've tried the Surface RT and Pro.

I owned them for a total of 2 days. They do nothing well.

They cannot play the role of tablet or ultrabook. Its rather frustrating. The only positive that the Pro version has is hand written note capability.

Over priced for a bunch of junky hard ware and bad OS.

The concept of a super-thin screen-cover, with real mechanical keys, that snaps on magnetically, in a choice of colors, IS genuinely interesting and appealing.

I give full credit to Logitech who did it first:

(And Apple who started the colorful magnetic lid thing to begin with.)

What a shame. By that I mean I really feel sorry for the people who bought those tablets, only to see the prices of them slashed./QUOTE]

I am sure all 6 of them will be pissed.

RT is pointless. The whole windows ecosystem is such a mess with like 7 different windows 8 versions + RT. Make one version for everyone dumbasses!

Keep if simple and people might have a chance at understanding it...

I understand they have to charge a lot compared to apple as well apples game is hardware and that's. where they make their money. But it promotes loyalty apart from the fact they its way easier to control and use... Can anyone find anything easily on win8 at all now!

I think Msoft are crazy with that touch cover price.

They really should bundle that either for free or make it at most a quarter of it's price.

They used old tech, and low rez screen.
Irrespective of what Apple fans here say, spec is important as the tech guys love it and will shout about it to others lower down the chain.

In time I could be interested in some type of Windows tablet as it will run al I want, the way I want it, but it's got to really be dam good speed and screen wise, and priced well.

I think it is worse than that. By now everybody knows that the RT (this generation at least) is dead. There is almost no software for it, and software written for a future model (if there even is one) will in many cases conflict with this devices specs. So, what can it really do? Surf the web, answer email and use a crippled version of Office that is only somewhat usable with a wobbly keyboard and a tragic trackpad (for a $100 more). In addition, the 32 GB model has almost no usable storage space left.

People know that this will not be the last price cut. By September you will likely get one of those for $199 or less.

agreed, RT should not cost more than $199.
