Of course Surface is going to do terrible!

The TV spots have been about people dancing like monkeys but in the last month is when they started to show actual functionality.

They had the worst campaign ever, people dancing? that won't sell a thing. They never showed the product working = no sales!

iPads have been always about functionality, showing applications working, many of them. Of course Apple is selling them in huge numbers.

The problem with the tablet is Steve Ballmer is in charge. He seems to believe that people will buy something because it has Microsoft on it. What he fails to understand is MS is a much despised and hated brand for it's ongoing poor customer service and customer abuse.

As long as MS believes that clients think they are gods gift to the computer world then they'll continue to produce lemons.

How hard can it be to look at what Apple does, to understand why they are so successful then emulate it. MS fails to understand the iPad is not a success because it's a tablet. It's much much more than that.

But - and correct me if I'm wrong - there's no facts to back up the expected Surface RT sales vs actual sales, only conjecture. It's just as possible that the Surface RT isn't selling well, as it's possible that they're simply clearing out the excess inventory before a refresh.

The difference is that one has a negative connotation, the other a positive connotation. And in one case, MR doesn't make any negative accusations about a 35% iPhone price cut, while there is a negative tone directed against Microsoft's 30% price cut.

Seriously, Apple offers a greater percentage discount, where's the outrage!? :D

What does any of that have to do with the fact you incorrectly stated "iPhone is failing to sell" and that, paraphrasing, MR never reports negative news about Apple products? Please go back to my original post to you and grasp its context.

BTW I think you are referring to the Walmart iPhone 5 sale last holiday season... MR did report it, and it was Walmart putting it on sale, not Apple, and it was for a limited time only, not permanent. I think Best Buy had a similar sale as well.

The blame for this fiasco should be laid squarely on the choreography for their advertisement it was predictably groovy but without any real innovation or menace.

Wow! Not surprised, all they do is outsource and produce crap! They need to retire half of their old workforce, they have no vision.

Good, this means that RT has a chance to die quickly before it drags MS down any further. RT was a very bad idea on all levels. I wouldn't even buy a RT tablet for $100, I'd rather use that $100 to buy MS Office and install it on a full windows tablet.

And why the heck did they call it RT? Like anyone was gonna know what the heck that means.

It's funny how everything revolves around Apple to the people here. In another site this story would have been that Microsoft is cutting the prices because of the sales, but here it's all related to the commercial, etc.

I'm really into interpersonal communication, so it's just fascinating how attach certain people get to a brand, logo, corporation.

Undoubtedly so. I was asking if he would've done the same thing when facing the current hardware climate the first time around.

Microsoft started as a software company and Windows is on roughly 90% of the computers in the world. Microsoft Office is the standard in any business environment.

Why do you think he was so wrong?

He now spends his time helping the world with his philanthropy.

Not all self made Billionaires would work that hard and help so many people when he could sit on his ass.

This is gonna be the ultimate fan boy post, but I'm sure many people would agree. I have never been so attached to a pc as I have with my mac, I appreciate it 1000 times more. Same with my ipod nano 3rd gen, which I think was one of Apple's best products also something hypnotic about it.

They are still too expensive. What Microsoft needed to do was come out at $99 for about 6 months to a year. Yes, they would take a major loss in the short term, but hear me out.

You sell initially at a loss to get a lot of market share, because in today's world that is where it counts. Once they had established the marketshare, then they could sell at normal prices that they can make a profit off of.

This is assuming that people actually liked Windows tablets (clearly they don't).

I learned in school that introductory sales don't work

$200 off 10 weeks after the introduction of the original iPhone. I know because I was one of the pissed off people that got compensated (ripped off) with a $100 iTunes gift card for being an early adopter.

In no way did you get ripped off. You willingly entered an agreement to purchase the iPhone at the advertised price therefor making it the mutually agreed price.

As an early adopter you get what you get and you don't throw a fit. That is unless you want to act like your 5 years old.

I whole-heartedly disagree with your post. As an early-adopter, he showed a lot of faith and risk in taking on a product that was unknown to the world. How many iphone originals did you see around, almost no one had one. So I admire that, those are the people who have true faith in a certain product, and it's a darn shame that had to happen.
