My main issue, having used the RTM for a few days now is that they haven't entirely unified the UI yet. In some places you still get "old windows" instead of the new Metro-inspired interface. For instance, the "Settings" app is supposed to have entirely replaced the old "Control Panel", but the settings app does'nt have all the same functionality, so if you do some things it will revert to the old control panel.

If the rumors are true, the UI being switched from old Win32 to XAML is an ongoing process that'll be complete by the time the second Redstone update rolls out next year. Right now, everything's in place for the future upgrade, but it hasn't been fully committed to as of yet, probably due both to a lack of time, and to maintain compatibility while Win10 builds its user base.

As far as I've read, that was an intentional move by MS. One is for regular users and one is for power users. Windows 7, and Vista to a degree, do by default offer a simplified view by category selection for the control panel. Though for the power user, this is frustrating because we'd like to see everything at once, and not go hunting for what we need.

That's me. The settings app slowed me up more then once with Windows 8. I have a utility called start8 which brings back the start menu and one nice benefit is the link to the control panel so I go right into that.

I use Start8 as well on my office Windows 8.1 PC. Its been a huge blessing to have that.

Indeed and they have Start10 for win10, but I found that it was not needed as much for windows 10. I'm on the fence of buying it next week when I install windows 10 on my SP3

What would that do for Windows 10? I'm very happy with what Microsoft did this time around with the Start menu.

It does the same exact thing as start8, bring you a windows 7 like start menu. You have some level of customization like with start8 but overall the difference between what windows 10 offers and what start10 provides is rather minor imo.

It doesn't sound like anything I'd be interested in. It's very handy on 8.1 though.
