oh, they added Teams? The app that's free without a plan? The app that took them literally years to support native MacOS notificiations? The app that still doesn't run natively on the M1? Well that makes it all worth while then doesn't it?
Teams in 365 is not the same as Teams for personal use. As far as the app goes, it runs in Electron right now (which is limiting functionality on Mac) but has been undergoing a massive overhaul behind the scenes for the past couple of years.

Well they're not a charity 😂,..they have shareholders to appease! 🙄🤦‍♂️

All companies do this, including Apple!
I figured with apple's profits they're giving stuff away and not taking away, well minus chargers and headphones that used to come with their phones

And there it is.

When you're a company that depends on these tools, "This is too expensive, let's drop it" is not an option. Microsoft literally has companies by the balls, including mine. And there's nothing we can do about it.

This is why regulation is needed in this industry. It's too easy to become completely locked in with no other options.

The app that still doesn't run natively on the M1?
The worst thing is that it's an Electron app, which is basically a web browser. Porting it to M1 would be trivial.

And not only that, but if you want "native" Teams, just run it in Safari or Chrome or any other browser that's been ported to M1, and it'll be as native as the Teams app if it got ported.

Well subscription usually increase in price now and then so not suprised it happens .

And depending how you work office 2019/365 is the way to go.

For business that is, but for a consumer you could use notepad++ ,if you want.

I use 365 personal and its killer deal for me personally its like 7.4dollars in sweden a month prob a bit cheaper if you go with yearly sub.

They have also introduced so you can use custom domain with office365 personal at last.

Office 365 Personal is $5.83 a month and includes the Office, 1TB of Onedrive and a larger personal mailbox.
Costco has a 15 month 365 subscription for $89 usd for 5 users ($1.18 per month per to) each with 1TB for cloud with the ability to upload phone photos.

Office 365 is the new cable. Price creep to subsidize all of the niche add-ons that 90% of users will never even try. In a decade we'll be reading rumors about discussions to break it up and pay a-la-carte for individual apps. Individual apps will then price creep as tools and add-ons are bundled in. Repeat ad infinitum.

Really? Where has Apple hiked prices on their subscription services? That's what this news article is about. Interesting how you're defending Microsoft for raising prices. 🙄
The article and comments are about VALUE. MS Office365 has always been a great value and if you read the article, they haven't raised the prices for years. Apple, on the other hand, may make great products and have a cult following, but not many define Apple as a great value. Compare Apple iCloud-only vs Office365 5 user/1TB OneDrive plan and tell me how Apple is better?

constantly adding new features and yet only raising the prices after 10 years. Somebody show this to Intuit and the Quickbooks online people. I think we're on our 4th price increase in 2 years

Nothing about this is honest because it's not even true. Microsoft has been killing it lately.
Yep including making Windows 11, AKA the Mac-experience. Lots of innovation..because it's from Apple. 😂
But when it comes to Office Macs get the short end of the stick but business owners will have to pay a price hike and get nothing on their Macs. SMH.

Been to the grocery store lately? Bought gasoline lately? "Price creep" is in literally every industry. Prices go up. Rarely down. It's not some big conspiracy...

First you add value over a couple years and call it "we are giving more value than ever" and then you jack the prices up to account for the value provided, bring it right back to where it was. Rinse and repeat. Oh and don't forget to mention the "since inception" card - we have added 24 apps since Microsoft 365 was started. Should also tell what was the price and what the plans were at inception and what those are today, people will see they are being drained while value has actually decreased several times over.

In my country, Business Premium used to be roughly USD 8.25 (with today's exchange rate) and today same plan is USD 20.

Has it added USD 11.75 worth of value per month? No, it has not. It is the same damn thing it was, for me.

So I use a combination of Microsoft Personal and Microsoft 365 Business for my needs. Personal license goes towards desktop apps and business license is just a Business Basic that gives me Exchange Inbox and 1 TB storage. This is the only way Microsoft ecosystem works for me, cost-wise.

And this cost has increased by USD 9 a year last year. From roughly USD 60 to USD 69. As developers love talking in terms of coffee, in coffee-speak this increase might not look that much, but the accountant speaks percentage, and in those terms it is a big bl***y 15% ... they have not added 15% worth of value to the subscription.

MS Office is a ripoff plain and simple. Microsoft has a monopoly and they get away with screwing customers.

Ever since I installed Office 365 on my M1 MBP, I am always getting a nag screen about dismiss, deny when I launch any of the apps. Its very annoying! I have a few copies of subs I bought at the campus for a significant discount so, I will use those until I run out then eventually move over to using a combination of Office Online and iWork.

There are people in the world that must use Microsoft products to ensure 100% compatibility when exchanging documents with clients. I happen to be one of those people, fortunately-unfortunately. I cannot use Apple products and export in DOCX format and send it over. Clients sometimes want some things in a certain way that must reflect as is when they open those documents in their Microsoft apps. Nothing I can do in that regard.. except to swallow the cost and account for it in my prices I charge them.

We know you love iWork, and I agree it is great, but please understand for once and hopefully for all times that iWork is best for environs that do not include Microsoft apps but only Apple products. I am not going to say it is great for personal use and not for professional use, because if my client is a Mac environment, I would do much better to send the client a Pages/ Numbers/ Keynote document than a DOCX/ XLSX/ PPTX Microsoft document. And that would be a professional exchange, so not saying iWork is not for professional use.

But, you have to understand and admit, bringing the greatness of iWork into the discussion every time office productivity software is being discussed is like bringing a butter knife to a gunfight, simply because of the fact that a majority of the world uses Microsoft apps at/ for work. When that situation changes, the tools we use will change.

I will give you an example here. At iWork's peak in around 2009, it was so good with interoperability for my use that I was working in iWork and converting and sending out to clients and they never had any issues. My full professional needs were being met with iWork. I cannot say that today, because Apple decided to convert iWork into apps for children, so to speak. The power that was on tap has just been missing ever since they overhauled the apps.

So, point is, if 90% of your recipients use a Mac, you can get away with iWork and think why are others not using it.. but an obscene number of businesses in the world work with Microsoft apps and, therefore, anyone working with those businesses must also work using Microsoft apps, whether desired or not.
