Hello.
I have a friend that have Microsoft Office 2008, and she would like to have the 2011 version. she have the activation key and everything for 2008.
Is it possible to kind of " upgrade" to make it work for 2011 ?
I have no damn clue, I'm never using Microsoft Office ?

Thanks in advance guys.

I haven't upgraded from 2008 to 2011, as I already started with 2011. However, I think in order to upgrade, she would need to buy a license for 2011. She might be able to get a discount on the 2011 license since she already has 2008, but would still need to pay for the license. Best thing to do would be to contact MS about the upgrade and see what pricing they can offer.

The activation code for 2008 does NOT work for 2011. You need to upgrade and purchase an upgrade license.

She should wait - a new version of Office for Mac will be released very soon.

There will be the option of a standalone perpetual licensed copy - or she can subscribe to Office 365 and get the update that way, but with an ongoing annual cost.

"in the second half of 2015 we will make the final release available. Office 365 commercial and consumer subscribers will get the next version at no additional cost, and we will release a perpetual license of Office for Mac in the same timeframe."

Office 2011 is really buggy so I agree that waiting for 2016 version is the best idea. You can actually download the Preview version for free from Microsoft's site. Much better than 2011 - even in the preview version and for free :).
