now only the die hard fans that still use MS Office

MS Office doesn't have "fans". It has users who understand that it is the industry standard office software package and the importance of being compatible with other users.

No professional would ever take a chance with sharing a spreadsheet or word document and not have it open properly on a clients machine. I have personally had this happen when I was sent a spreadsheet that contained a chart created in iWork and saved in supposed "Excel Format"... It amateurish and not worth the embarrassment (not to mention the possibility of losing an account) to save $99 a year or to make some silly childish "anti-MS" statement by Apple "fans"...

Color me impressed on the iPhone app

PowerPoint handled wayyy better one of my ppts than keynote. Still not perfect though.
Shame it doesn't have a pointer. I won't pay for the sub since I can edit in other apps, but this might be my ppt presenter app for ppts that have imports and animations. I hate carrying a laptop all day just for a morning ppt.

The worst thing I've had is a developer sending me their resume in pages format... Not even PDF.

He converted it to doc, obviously didn't check it and well safe to say that he wasn't hired.

Your opinion. I rent all the time on iTunes. Love the convenience.

Like the poster that you quoted mentioned, some people just value convenience more than sheer price difference. Different folks, different strokes.

I don't see any trap here. Stop spouting nonsense.

But subscription based software is a trap and talking about it as such isn't nonsense? I see you missed the point of my post too. :)

Very few people in the real world believe that they are....

Yup. It's kinda hard to call a company that continues to post massive record profits year after year even after a couple of good stumbles entirely irrelevant.

MS is just as big now as they were 10 years ago. The only difference between now and then is that they're no longer the only player in the market.

I believe that during the slideshow presentation, if you tap and hold on the iPad screen, a "laser pointer" appears.

It's hard to say.

I mean life is a trap
you don't just buy one piece of food to eat, or 1 item of clothing to wear.

You buy an iMac for $2000 and sell it for $1000
Whilst you think you have owned it, in reality, looking at it another way you have just paid for owning it over that time.

Same with your car.
You but Gas, and pay all tax's
Most cars halve in value after around 3 years.

You could pay say $200 for a package, then in a couple of years, pay another $200 or you could pay a little each day.

It feels different.
As I said, we have people going crazy that the most popular business application ever can run on multiple computers and will cost them a fraction of 1 sandwich a day.

And these are supposed to be wealthy Mac owners complaining.

You know what. I'm sure if Office was industry standard and Apple, then this deal would be looked upon as great by the very same people.

It's not Microsofts fault that Apple could never put together a world standard office package.

What kind of stupid argument is that? Google Docs or TextEdit is fine for me for everyday use. I only need Word in certain cases for school, maybe once a month. Regardless what I paid for my computer (that I use everyday), $99/year for something I use once a month is tough to justify. I use Spotify everyday, and so I pay $99/year for that.

£2000 can be tough to justify when a Windows PC costs a lot less and can still do all the same stuff and be fine for many for everyday use. Especially if you're only using software like Google Docs and TextEdit.

It works both ways. But everybody's priorities are different.

I am big Apple fan myself but honestly I see this as a very positive thing! I mean how can this be bad for Apple or for us consumers? Competition is good and these apps will benefit many iOS users.

thats exactly the point. still a lot of apple fanboys dont seem to understand that.

That's for office on 5 PC's and 5 devices, shared with 5 people...it's quite a bargain really.

It's a great deal if you have 5 PC's and devices to use it on but what if you only have one and you already bought Office 2011 for full pop? Then not such a bargain.

I have to say that after two days testing OneDrive, I am not happy with it. It doesn't sync OS X metadata, so my Tags don't sync from my iMac to my Macbook Air. It also has issues with file names using characters that are not supported on Windows.
Of course this is not a great situation to be, so I started using DropBox again, reactivated my subscription and configured my iMac so that DropBox and OneDrive files point to the same folders. My Macbook Air is configured only with Dropbox, so when I change sth on my iMac, it will get uploaded on both Dropbox and OneDrive, and my Macbook Air will also get it through DropBox sync (with tags information).
If I change sth on my Macbook Air then it finds its way to Dropbox first and then it gets synced to OneDrive also through my iMac automatically. Sounds complex, but that way I can have my files available for Office for iPad.
The only downside? The value proposition I talked before here in this thread, that Office premium can be, is not as good as before. I can't stop my Dropbox subscription and on top of that I have the Office premium one..At least I got rid of Evernote, so that is not that bad..
I sent feedback to Microsoft about OneDrive not syncing OS X metadata. Hopefully in the future they implement this feature...
Just wanted to inform you guys thinking about using OneDrive exclusively. If you don't care about your OS X metadata, then you will be fine. If you do, then use Dropbox instead...

Relatively speaking, the Office license appears much more expensive to me. Do I really want to pay $1000 (or more - Microsoft could obviously adjust their pricing at any time) in order to be able to use Office on my iPad for the next 10 years?

Your Ipad won't be viable for ten years, you'd probably have to buy 3 in that time period to be able to continue using modern software.

----------

people on this forum dont want to acknowledge anything positive regarding microsoft.

yet again, a thread with a lot of butt hurt apple fans.

This might have to do with a lot of the negative comments here. For a long time some have posted that Office on the iPad would be useless, nobody would be it etc, but suddenly it is very popular and the nonsensical posting starts again. I laugh when I read that someone tried it for 10 seconds or a minute and deleted it. Yea, that's really enough time to evaluate it.

It's also near the top of the grossing charts which means people are subscribing/paying

arn

Well, when one subscription is $100 it kind of helps move it to the top when most apps cost far less. The fact that it's at the top does not mean it's a success necessarily...yet. I'd like to know the percentage of downloads that results in a subscription. Somehow I doubt they'll share that.

I'm buying a business Office 365 sub, so $150 a year to make documents actually work instead of fumbling around with Pages? Thank you. (Swipe company credit card)

Some of us work for a living and I've wasted way more than $150 trying to find ways to make my life easier with iPad in a Windows & Office world. I hate Windows. I've been using Macs since 1992. But in my job my likes don't matter. We use a windows. We use office. Heavily. And $150 is a bargain to never have to worry about it again. And I get new copies of Office every time they come out. On at least my home and work computers. (And 3 more) the install can be PC or mac. We've never seen anything like this. It's a fantastic deal.

It may not be for everyone but it's a great deal for business.

Supported Countries

Hey,
Anyone knows in which countries these apps are available in..?

I can't seem to find anything through the Microsoft site about which country stores the apps has been released to and what languages are supported.

In the Israeli store the apps are not available for download.
Any arabic-speaking friends here who can say anything about Arabic support on their country app store site...?

I hope MS didn't leave out RTL support................................
If this is true for the iPad, it seems RTL users would never get Office for Mac with RTL support...........

I'm very certain that nowhere close to "millions" of people bought the subscription. It's $99, so relatively few people bought it to reach that status. I'm not trying to put Microsoft down. I'm just stating the obvious.

Actually Clash of Clans make $654,000 a day, and is number one. Word has now climbed to number 4! So they are heaving in the cash.

I remember writing a term paper with Word. Import some graphs and other things. Completley messed up the document, no matter how i format the imported pictures. I snapped, removed office and used Pages instead. Worked like a charm. Havent looked back since. Except excel, which has some features that Numbers just doesnt have/support.

But i actually think you'd have to pay me to use Word ever again. POS software.

And then got deleted by thousands of people when they discovered it's $99.99/year.

Yes, I deleted Word mid-way through the download after reading the fine print which stated that one needed Microsoft 365. The irony is that I have four Macs (family Macs) in my house, all with Office Suite. You'd think they allow those with the Office Suite access to it. I still use Word/Excel/PowerPoint at work (am H.S. teacher) but am starting to use Scrivener more. Apple's Pages just doesn't cut it for me.

Yep I agree. I can't believe the bellyaching over $99, it's comical. "I can't afford $99/year gahh, can you put some cream in my $5 Starbucks coffee which I get every day? Hold on while I take a call on my $600 phone."

While most of my work is done on proprietary software, I do many collaborative reports which are shared with other health care providers. I would never risk the embarrassment of being unable to produce a report to save $8.25/month.

----------

I got the student version of 365, $99 for 4 years so I'm loving it.

That's a nice price, but I fear $2.06 will be way too much for some on these forums.

----------

Microsoft? Had no idea they were still in business. :apple:

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were cryogenically frozen by accident in a lab experiment in the 90s. It has to be, because no one is that dumb.
