This is really only going the be useful for a majority of users, once Apple is forced to open up iOS/iPadOS for actual Xbox/Xcloud game-streaming or maybe down the road native games.
They could release native games now if they wanted and considering they are removing the ability to stream games through the app on android and moving it to browser on that platform says a lot

Meanwhile Sony still only has streaming on PC only.
Sony is no longer MS' target and Xbox is not their primary platform. They want what Steam has. It's why they will "never" release a GamePass client on the SteamDeck until Valve is defeated. Valve is doing PC Gaming on linux and they now have Proton working on ARM CPUs.

They already have. Microsoft claim its not 'economical' to launch native Game Pas Streaming on iOS. Yet Antstream have made it work and there are zero Xbox gamers who are going to be solely playing on an iPhone via the cloud. They will have already subbed via their console/PC and thus Microsoft don't owe Apple any cuts.

Microsoft charges the same "greedy" 30% cut as well. How exactly would being able to play games through an Apple TV become a new era of gaming but an Xbox Series S didn't create a new era of gaming with a low pricepoint? It's worthwhile to have the functionality but if this were to create a new era of gaming it would just be baked into a smart TV...and nobody's stopping that from happening, but it isn't.
No its not the same, they are charging 12% for games currently.

Please just bring cloud gaming to iOS/tvOS please. It's such a massive market hole that Apple refuses to fill because of their greedy 30% cut and propping up the failing apple arcade

Imagine hooking your xbox controller up to an apple TV and playing xbox games through an xbox tvOS app....

It would eat so many lunches and become a literal new era of gaming. Nobody cares that this is already on whatever obscure android tv box- this has to be on tvOS and iOS to matter.
I think the Game Pass folks here, including myself, are salivating for the day this happens...but we're not holding our breath for it.

Is it not possible to play Xbox Game Pass games through browser on iPhone?
Its possible to play games via xCloud on the browser. This is not related to that though. The Gamepass app is more about using the specific Gamepass service.

The firetv stick already does this at least for those who don't want to wait.

That’s only the windows pc app store. Xbox still charges 30% for all digital and physical game stores. Microsoft only dropped the percentage on their store that is less lucrative hoping it will entice developers to release in that storefront

I just signed up for Ultimate Gamepass yesterday. Not sure what this new feature is but you can play through a browser already. Gave Flight Simulator a test on my iPad with a PS4 controller hooked up. Worked exactly as I expected it to. I switched from the Ubisoft streaming service just because of the number of games that I would actually want to play on Xbox. Ubisoft games have really dropped in quality over the years and found myself just bored with the latest releases of Assassins Creed and Star Wars Outlaw. Did not finish either of them as they really just are mediocre games at best with lazy story telling.

At this point I think I there is more fun watching the YouTube videos on Star Wars Outlaw, than playing the game. They are hilarious.

I believe it, the game is just not enjoyable to play. I would say the most fun I have had playing Star Wars games goes way back to the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games, then Force Unleashed 1 and 2 for fun button mashers.
