Incidently, you cannot connect to the machine running XP using an account that does not have a password. To repeat the account you login with must be passworded (that a word?).

Out of interest, how do you find out the IP address of a computer running Windows XP Home Edition? (That digitalresolve.co.uk thing gave the same address for both my Mac and Windows so I don't trust it)

on the PC go start>>run>>type com hit enter and then type ipconfig at the prompt and hit enter.

Well I can't get it to work and I've tried everything from password-protected accounts to firewalls off on both computers. I get the same problems trying to access my Mac from the Windows computer too. Maybe my dad will be able to help, but it's only really out of curiosity (after seeing this thread), like the original poster, that I tried it.

Yes.. its supposed too. It gives your EXTERNAL ip address.. basically your world wide internet connection (rather than your network ip address in your house)

Remote D.C.: Some Basic Questions...HELP!

XP Home or Professional support this however, there is a caveat. Once you connect through RDC to the XP computer, the local console (meaning the monitor and keyboard connected to the XP computer) will be locked. Only one person can use the system at one time (meaning the local console or RDC).

Hey folks! i'm a bit late getting into this thread, but i just came across RDC...and it certainly seems a fine solution to try before i shell out a bunch of cash to microsoft for VPC7! (i am correct, am i not, that RDC is free?)
OK...so here are my queries: 1) according to the website, only XP Professional supports this: <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/download/misc/rdc_update_103.xml&secid=80&ssid=10&flgnosysreq=True> or am i reading that wrong?
2) is it possible to configure it so that when i access the PC i can only get into one particular account? i'm going to try to talk my brother into letting me access his pc, but i want to assure him that it won't enable me to get into any of his stuff!

i guess that's about it...for now...thanks in advance!
