"Microsoft executives are likely breathing a sign of relief today. Just one day after opening up pre-orders for Surface RT, the company has sold out of its least expensive 32GB model."

"When asked for the specific number of units sold, a Microsoft spokesperson said, “No numbers to share, the $499 one is now on backorder so that means that SKU is out but all three SKUs will be ready for launch day.”

Artificially limiting supply to create to create false idea of scarcity and thus hype?

When Apple sells out I know many people who ordered...
Know anyone who ordered a Surface?

I have two friends who ordered two each, my son ordered one but I waiting on the Pro. Several people I know are waiting to actually get a hands-on but will probably buy one or wait for the Pro too.

Most of my friends are in IT.

It can have the best hardware in the world. But unless it offers more apps, and better apps than the iPad, I dont see enough of a reason to switch.

The main factor in the failure of the Zune project was that the ecosystem was far too sparse and unsupported. The Zune HD had great hardware, with cool features the iPod didnt have, but it still sunk like the titanic. Why? Because content is everything.

I completely sold out of my duct tape wallets in one day.
Cant tell you how many though.

Hint: It was more than -1 but less than 1.

Sdave i totally agree with you there must be a stiff competition in the market. Apple has been enjoying good Return for years but now there must be a strong competitor of it. Without competition any business can enjoy its long run but with competition it is not easy to survive in the market without unique strategies.

yea, for the sake of us getting better idevices next year, i sincerely hope the surface becomes a big hit.

Only the consumers like us stand to benefit. so GO MICROSOFT!!! Don't allow tim cook and co. sleep easy at night! :D

I honestly thought their production of initial units would be more. I mean the thing has been complete since June at the key note....

Even microsoft must have thought this was going to fail :D

I'm not surprised there seems to be a lot of positive energy and desire with the tablet. I think its a little over priced for the RT version but the folks over at Redmond must be happy with these results.

My iPad 3 > Surface. With that being said, the surface looks pretty nifty, but not enough to get me to trade in my iPad for one.

Does anyone know when the pro comes out?

The Acer W700 has nearly the same specs and form factor as the Pro and will be available Oct 26. The Acer is actually slightly lighter and thinner than the current MS Pro spec. List price is between $749 and $999 and can compete with the iPad, Air, and MB Pro.

Only problem is the hideous cradle and the fact that it doesn't have that nifty cover that the Surface does. I'm honestly waiting for the Pro but I'm going to check out the RT at my local Microsoft Store and if I like it I may buy one of those too.
