Androdi and iPhone users should recognise some of these icons!

So far so good. They need to show a real phone though, it all looks like static screens so far.

"I'm going to show you a real live demo of a real live device. This is prototype hardware."

Prototype? That doesn't make me think of an imminent release. Also:

"We've tried to make hardware and software that work in unison. Every phone will have three buttons on the front -- start, search, and back."

Looks like HTC HD2 owners will be missing out too!

3:26PM Ha! "We support multitouch and all these rich multitouch gestures. It's consistent with our PC implementation."

3:26PM Showing off maps now... pinch to zoom, and very smooth animations on transitions. In fact, there's been no hiccups at all on performance. Everything is super smooth"

Mutlitouch? That often touted Apple tech? ;)

Window Series 7

I am liking what I am seeing so far.

The mobile industry has, up 'till now, failed to take the iPhone seriously.
Only Palm has really attempted to create a whole new platform go up against iPhone.

Neither Google or Nokia has gone far enough.

Microsoft appears to be doing a ground-up re-design of its Mobile OS - which is a good thing for Microsoft. And a really good thing for iPhone users. (like me)

Because there might finally be some increased competition in these here parts.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. But I am loving the reboot so far.

C.

Some of the screens look nice, but I can't Music + Video and Games look a lot more finished than Office for example. I can't imagine we'll see these phones until the end of the year at best. It's quite exciting though.

Hopefully, their app process will be open meaning Opera or Mozilla can fix that issue. If it's closed then I dan't care for it at all.

yeah, it also appears that there isn't any background processes, based on this "Hub" stuff they are talking about.

I am not sure how I feel about that.

So where is that WOW?

The Sharepoint integration is a Wow feature (for those that use Sharepoint I guess...). Other than that, it is nice, but I don't think there is going to be any wow from MS. There really isn't a whole lot they could do to wow anyone at this point (IMHO).

I guess. At least they are doing something.

I will say that Apple needs a XBL service. I hate all the different online services that have popped up. It creates fragmentation. One service, integrated into the core of the device and make every game that uses online gaming use this service.

Sony has slowly realized that with PSN, if Apple wants to make a mark (and one up Nintendo in the process) they need to do the same.

All IMHO...

Flat

Can we rotate the phone so that we can view pictures taken in landscape mode?

Is it just me or the "icons" seem to be very 2D/flat, not 3D-like like apple app icons? It still seems to be pretty pretty confusing and clustered for me.

it is no doubt a revolutionary device.

Its completely different from "launching an app for this", its actually "i want to do this".

I still would like to see, notification, multitasking, battery.

To compete successfully, the quality and quantity of apps (though not the design philosophy of it, people probably still gonna want it) are also important.

Its indeed an ZUNE phone, and from what I experience with iPT and Zune, MS has a winner at hands. Its extremely forward looking.

yes, its filled with 2D big icons with big, bold, end half missing fonts, its totally ZUNE style, just even more. Its an very stylish and fashionable design if you ask me, very graphic arts-like. its a total different design taste from all those 3D, shadow thing from all other phones. I'm truly impressed.

If the functions are right, i can see this to be my next phone. This could be tricky, because "apps" is somewhat an idea that is basically opposite of what this phone's design intention is. Hands on would definitely help.

That's exactly what I thought. It looks great and "arty". It feels like a graphic designer did this and not a user interface designer. I somehow can't see it being very enjoyable and straight-forward to use. I mean this whole thing with the large font that has pieces of it missing looks great in an ad, but why would you want to implement something like that in a user interface?

To be fair, I've never used a Zune, so I may be completely wrong.

Im digging the OLED screens they have on those phones. Same as the ZUNEHD, which completely puts the ipod touch to shame.
EDIT: they are using the same OS as the ZUNEHD. This is gonna be epic!!!!

Cuz it's cool man, dig it? And who cares if you only see 3 contacts on the screen at once, it's hipster cred that matters!

The only games that don't use PSN are the ones that we're created before its inception.

Oh wow, LagunaSol calling someone else a hipster.

(I suggest you look outside Apple related forums to see what device fans are actually considered hipsters.)

Just saw the videos over at Gizmodo. Maybe it's just me... but I wasn't impressed at all. I thought the interface looked clunky and downright ugly. I will admit I am partial to the iPhone, but I dont feel this way about my g/fs Droid. Maybe its just me.
