Why does Microsoft surface laptops have better hardware than the iPad Pro?

When you look at the hardware specs the surface laptops have better hardware than the iPad Pro.

Here is thread talking about it

As you can see reading the thread Microsoft surface laptops have better hardware and cheaper than the iPad Pro.

The New Windows is HERE - Copilot+

Note the keyboard, mouse and pen is not included. And you have to pay for it.

Better hardware? Not really... (or at least it depends what you value). Better value for money in terms of hardware specs? Probably

I have a Surface Pro 7 and it's a great laptop, not so great tablet.

For me, the Surface Pro is a great desktop, an average laptop, and an average tablet. But it's functional in all forms, better than just an iPad, and way more versatile than a laptop. So, when you consider the trade-offs, it's really a neat device. Forget the co-pilot and other AI bollocks and give it all-day battery capability with good performance and I'm in.

I actually use it the majority of the time as a desktop, docked with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Only wish would be ability to expand the memory to 32GB from 16.

Not sure what you mean by “better”, but they do have a more powerful NPU and are configured with 16GB of memory by default. Graphics-wise the M4 iPad is vastly more powerful, I would wager.

It's worth remembering that the first iPad had an A4 chip with 256mb of ram and a VGA screen, and it still offered a better experience than the tablet PCs of its time. If windows laptops are coming with more ram, then it's probably because windows and co-pilot demands that much in resources.

So whether one device has better hardware than the other isn't nearly as important as what this allows consumers to get out of it. I would probably be happier using an iPad with 8gb ram than a windows PC with 16gb ram for the things I do on my iPad (heck, I was getting along fine with a 4gb iPad Pro).

Surface laptops are essentially still laptops with a faulty hinge (you can't hold them up by the keyboard and they tend to be more unstable on the lap because of their kickstand design). While there is some overlap here and there, I don't really see surface devices and iPads being interchangeable with each other.

Surface laptops are regular clamshell laptops, what you mean is Surface pro devices

I mean, the OP linked to a thread comparing the surface pro to the MBA, and they are both tablets with detachable keyboards and styluses, so I assumed that's what he was referring to?

Yes, that why I said you meant "Surface pro", because "Surface laptop" is a different device

You are right. For some reason, I took them to be synonymous with each other, forgetting that Microsoft also makes conventional laptop form factors and it's possible to have one confused with the other. :p

What do you mean better hardware?
The iPad Pro has the screen, tandem OLED, better GPU and CPU is better on iPad.
