Microsoft has posted a new behind-the-scenes look at several new features in the company's forthcoming Office for Mac 2011. The new features include:

- Co-Authoring: Using SkyDrive or SharePoint cloud storage, Office for Mac 2011 allows multiple authors to edit documents at the same time. And with Office Web apps, even users without Office installed on the computer can participate in the editing process.

- Scheduling Assistant: In-line calendaring in the mail portion of Outlook simplifies scheduling of meetings and other events, integrating communication channels with calendars.

- Broadcast Slideshow: Allows users to share PowerPoint presentations over the Internet in real-time, even with users without PowerPoint installed on their computers. Remote users can watch live while the present runs through their presentation.

Office for Mac 2011 is slated for release late next month, and today's preview is the third in a series of behind-the-scenes videos. The first video featured template galleries, Outlook features such as Conversation View, and the ribbon toolbar, while the second video looked at compatibility, graphing, and photo editing.

Broadcast slideshow is a lot like iChat's feature with KeyNotes. But of course perhaps its multi-platform. That would be nice.

I like how "Microsofts" own program is better on a Mac then it is on there own native OS- Windows.

What a joke hahaha

Never mind all that, when are we getting an updated Mac client for Windows Live Mesh (not be confused with Live Mesh or Windows Live Sync).

I had the Live Mesh client on my Mac, but it doesn't appear to work anymore.

I'm an iWork guy. The polish and tiny details matter to me.

But after watching the videos for Office 2011, there is a chance I may switch back. It's hard to admit, but I've got to give credit where credit it due. Microsoft, in some ways, did what Apple does best: figured out those tiny headaches in your work flow and made things easier. "Of course it should work that way" is Apple's specialty, and it appears like Microsoft may have nailed it with this version of Office.

I'll wait to see the proof in the pudding—marketing videos alone won't switch me.

But Apple needs to come strong with the next version of iWork to remain competitive. The last thing they want to do is give back ground to Microsoft—particularly in the iPad/iPhone and cloud spaces—by being hostage to MSOffice (again.)

I know iWork isn't sexy strategy, but it's critical to Apple's long term health.

how about improving Entourage so that it actually works exactly like Outlook? .pst files anyone?

also, can MS streamline Entourage so it doesn't take as long to launch, make it less buggy, stop having calendar events mysteriously disappear, having invitees actually receive an invite at least 99% of the time, make the Microsoft Database less prone to corruption - i have a lot more i can ask/suggest.

Sigh...we made it 3 posts before someone did the usual childish thing and bitch as MS. Grow up ffs.

I might not be the biggest Microsoft fan in the world, but Office Mac 2011 looks impressive. I am really looking forward to the release date and upgrading from Office 2008 to Office 2011.

"Because the experience is more dynamic, richer and beautiful, it's become more Mac-Like"

Sooooo.... something static, poor and ugly would be representative of a Microsoft application?

This version of Office includes Outlook.

They got rid of entourage and created outlook for mac.

Vba?

Does anyone know if they're bringing VBA (or whatever CLR equivalent) back?

I would like to use fancy spreadsheets and documents again...

I hope it is fast. Anyone notice with Office 2008 it says to stop any virus checking software while the Office updates are being applied to your Mac? It it so normal and natural to include those messages in Windows but not with Mac software.

My understanding from early statements from Microsoft is that VBA is back.

I suspect that is going to be one of the big "reveals" as they get closer to launch.
