Whoever (LG, HTC, nokia, samsung) makes a phone with microsoft new os could affect iPhone market. Why? Well, Microsoft has learned a lot of iPhone success. It appears that it will have an app store and they are bringing in developers for apps. They are using XNA and silverlight for games and apps. So, next year should be interesting. I am not sure how Apple will respond. The market is getting flooded with multi-touch type of phones. iPhone has a hugh advantage now because it has more apps than anyone. Question, what will apple do when that does not matter anymore? I think the front, back camera and ichat is the answer for one. Longer battery life like 24 hours talk time or continous gaming. I think the magic mouse effect on the back of the phone would be great. Creative multi-tasking would work. Stacking apps like photos would be nice plus personalizing it by categories. A quickview while the phone is lock that details weather, miss calls, appointments, battery life, etc. Bigger hard drive. Cloud sys like drop box and cloud video streaming, etc. Bigger screen or true HD and super OLed. These advances could put the iphone a few years ahead of the pack. Plus, keep the price fair.

Sorry I was going to read this but with no paragraphs it's uncomfortable.

Microsoft hasn't learnt a lot - they've basically made 6.5 phones DOA, and those out there dead in the water. (good decision to not have back compatability and start afresh, but there are repercussions of that).
They're apparently trying to push the Pink phone (see the saga on data loss, MSFT screwing up without data backups, and more) - which has been a catastrophe.
They're also pushing the WP7S - which is in some ways better relative to 6.5
However, even Tufte on first glance demonstrates there are issues with its interface as is.

There are several threads on what Aple could do for OS 4 and also the 4G iPhone. Best to post in there.

If it could be put on a HD2, it would be awesome. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be happening.

I doubt that Apple has much to worry about... I just found a spy photo of the next Microsoft Smart Phone:

    I have to ask.

What does Windows 7 Phone have to do with the iPhone forum?

It is a potential competitor to the iPhone. Where would you suggest this topic be?

Isn't this a place where comparisons are made, one phone to another, one carrier to another... etc.? ;)

Sounds to me like they got their cake and can eat it too:

    • They made a good decision to start fresh with WP7 so it has nothing but new apps.
    • They will continue to support the 6.5 style of devices for enterprise and other users.
That gives them two versions of competition to other phones.

Given that it is totally new start, do you think it is sensible to use the Windows brand name?

It does not, for instance, have any actual windows. Or Windows-like user-interface elements.

What kills me about MS is that they had both "SmartPhone" and "Pocket PC" sewed up as names for years.

Then, just as those terms could become popular, they drop them for their usual nonsensical alphanumeric junk.

Their marketing department needs to be shot. Or whoever made the decisions.

Well this isn't the "potential competitor" iPhone forum. So I'd suggest the general forum. Any other questions?

That would be a cool story if there was a "general forum." No more questions for you, since you don't have answers.
