Hi all,

Microsoft Word has always been sluggish on my MBP, something that I never noticed when I was using a desktop G4. For example...

1) When scrolling down (whether using the "Page down" key or two-fingered scrolling), the screen will just hang there frozen for several seconds, and then madly scroll down, sometimes far beyond what I intended.

2) It is slow to open and VERY slow to close.

3) At times, the cursor will just disappear while deleting or typing, and the program will become completely unresponsive for several seconds. If I continue typing or deleting while it is frozen, the action may or not be completed when it "thaws."

Suggestions for ways to correct this kind of thing would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

So that's Office 2004 right? In that case I'd guess it's a universal binary issue. Office 2008 is UB and runs fine- I remember having problems as you describe using Excel 2004. It was painful.

I have office 08 and its a little slower on osx than windows, especially opening.

Open up Word or excel on my old Vista laptop and it was BAM! instantaneous,

OSX its wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, open. Everything else seems to runs just about as fast though.

Any version of Word will open and close slowly on leopard, but I must admit is is painfully slow on my 17" 2.93 GHZ MBPU ...

I've noticed that Word 2008 is a little slow on my 2.1ghz 4GB Macbook, but never to the point where I think it is a serious problem. Is pages faster?

This is why Apple make a superior program called iWork 🙄

Haha. Good one.

I keep Office 2008 (sigh, it's so hard for me to admit that) on my 2 GHz MBP. Word opens in 3 seconds, Excel in 4.3 (+- .2 for hand timing errors). Not that big of a deal.
