What's the point of these apps. Can't I just go to msn.com in my browser? Do people actually use msn?

What's the point of most of the Apple-made apps? Can't I just use iCloud versions of calendar, contacts, pages, numbers, etc? Can't I just use iMovie, GarageBand, Maps, iBook, etc on my Mac computers?

I get your point but it would seem to be one that would apply to more than just these Microsoft's apps. And if you're going to allow the browser argument, how many apps from any developer can't be pretty much covered by websites somewhere on the internet?

I have no way to know for sure, but with MSN and BB both realeasing their software on iOS and Android, I wonder if they are in someway giving up on their OS/hardware and just focusing on the apps. It would cetainly play to MS stregnth since they have never been much of a hardware company.

Those icons look like something Jonathan Ive could have designed. Unapologetically bland.

Simple, functional, flat UI design. Sounds inline with Apple product ideologies since iOS 7.

In the Apple ecosphere, it's not the device that's suppose to be complex and fluffy, it's what you do with it that is!

These are all very good apps if people will just take a look at them. I have them on my Surface Pro 3 and use several of them.

From a design and stability standpoint, MSN Sports beats the pants off Yahoo's app. Unfortunately, Yahoo's coverage, at least of the NHL, is a bit better.

I hope these MSN apps motivate Yahoo to make its stuff friendly with the iPhone 6/6 Plus.

If any of these apps are like the ones in Windows 8, I'd be quite satisified. Windows 8 metro apps are actually very good and informative.

I just replaced CNN with MSN News. Much better content and interface. Oh, and I think the icons look good.

This is nuts! Other than the interface, there is no reason now to use a windows phone. Not only are all the Microsoft services available on the iPhone, I also would get access to all of Apple and many of googles services.

I have been holding on to my 920 just hoping something good will happen over in Microsoft land. I guess everyone over there is putting everything on hold to work on Windows 10. I guess its time to order that 6+ I guess...

yawwwnnnn... sorry I fell a sleep looking at these app icons.

Maybe these will wake you up...

Clearly, far, far superior 2-8 color icons for retina HD screens capable of millions of colors. Just look at the brilliance- no absolute genius- of those 4 in the lower left:
-4 different color circles overlapping on plain white is obviously an intuitive reference to game center. I mean, every time I see 4 balloons of those colors bunched up, I immediately think centralized gamers resource.
-2 compass icons are intuitively representing a virtual compass and a web browser. No way that anyone could be confused- especially with the universal presentation of "N" being up and to the right, "E" being down and to the right and so on (every time I look at a paper map, I always think of north in the upper right and south in the lower left). Genius.
-white camcorder shape on green rounded rectangle is so obviously Face Time and not maybe some kind of virtual camcorder or app that leads to a video collection and so on. I mean, it can't be a camcorder app because the one that looks like it probably takes still pictures in the upper right is also obviously the video capture app (every time I see a camera image and a camcorder image, I naturally think of the camera one as representative of both still and video capture while the camcorder image obviously means video conferencing- who could ever see such icons differently?).

Looking at these, I don't even know why other companies try.

*laugh* Couldn't have said it better myself.

Thanks for the laugh!

How does creative, thoughtful icon design lead to a device being complex and fluffy? That certainly wasn't a problem from iOS 1 through iOS 6.

I like all 5!

To tell you the truth, I like all these five Apps. Now I can use them on Windows Phone, Android tablet and iOS devices.

Will they ever learn? A few OEM car manufactures actually lost sales with "Microsoft" on their car stereo center stacks. Will "MSN" brand be another Scarlet Letter?

A lot of people all about MSN, but their MSN site gets hundreds of millions of uses per month. It just isn't popular in the US.
